Here are the crossovers, MPVs we want to see in PH this 2025

Last week, we listed some of the top pickup trucks we want to see in the Philippines this 2025. Today, we will follow it up with a list of the crossovers and multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) we wish to have in the country this year.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are some of the MPVs and crossovers the author wants to see in the Philippines this year?

The list of crossovers MPVs include the Xpander HEV, Honda WR-V, and BYD M6.
  • Where are these models available?

These models are currently available in countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
  • The below models are not currently sold by the respective Philippine subsidiaries of the manufacturers that make them. However, they are presently available in neighboring countries, which is why the author believes that there is hope for the said nameplates — or the noted version of the model — to make its way in our market.

    Mitsubishi Xpander HEV

In the Philippines, the Mitsubishi Xpander has dominated the MPV category for several years now making it a nameplate perennially appearing in the wish list of many Filipino car buyers.

Adding a hybrid electric variant to the popular model could further add to its reach and provide families looking to start their journey to sustainable mobility an MPV they car put their trust on.

In Thailand, the Mitsubishi Xpander HEV is fitted with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with the Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing Electronic Control system (MIVEC) technology coupled with a high-power electric motor.

Per the company’s literature, the MPV’s internal combustion engine generates some 93 horsepower (hp) with 134 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque while the electric motor dishes out 114 horses with 225 Nm.

Mitsubishi Thailand noted that on top of better fuel consumption and power delivery, the e:Motion hybrid electric powertrain offers would-be owners seven drive modes and active yaw control technology.

Additionally, the Mitsubishi Xpander HEV has seven drive modes, which we have listed below:

    • Normal mode
    • Wet mode
    • Gravel mode
    • Tarmac mode
    • Mud mode
    • Charge mode
    • EV mode

Mitsubishi Thailand slaps the Xpander HEV with a THB933,000 price tag. In our money, this should cost approximately P1.518 million. For reference, the Philippine-market Xpander (non-hybrid) costs P1.068 million with the dressed up Xpander Cross costing P1.346 million.

    Honda e:N1

Honda, in the Philippines, is making significant strides in terms of electrifying its model range. In 2023, it introduced the hybrid CR-V and last year brought the hybrid Civic. On that note, it would be good if the Japanese carmaker will fortify its electric lineup here by adding the e:N1.

The abovementioned crossover is currently available in Thailand where it is offered in a single variant. Dubbed as a premium electric sport utility vehicle, it has a body type more akin to the HR-V, which is considered a crossover here in the Philippines.

Electric propulsion comes from an AC synchronous motor that puts out 201 hp with 310 Nm of pulling power. The estimated range is up to 500 kilometers (km) on a single charge, which is not bad granted it has a full electric powertrain.

It also comes with a truckload of safety technologies courtesy of the Honda Sensing suite of safety features.

Unlike other Honda models, it appears that the e:N1 is not for sale in the Land of Smiles but is available for rent via the company’s partners in Thailand.

    Honda WR-V

Another Honda crossover we’re excited for is the WR-V. It’s pretty much within the weight class of the Toyota Raize and the Kia Sonet, so we reckon that it has a strong potential to contend in the segment due to the brand’s good reputation in the Philippines.

Powering the Honda WR-V is a 1.5-liter gasoline engine mated to a continuously variable transmission. The said setup makes 119 horses with 145 Nm of torque.

Notable is its aggressive design with 16- to 17-inch wheels and a decent ground clearance. It also gets analog and digital gauges on its instrument cluster, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, as well as a slew of safety features via Honda Sensing.

In Thailand, it is offered in two variants, namely SV and RS. The former is priced at THB799,000 (around P1347 milllion) while the latter costs THB869,000 (about P1.466 million).

    BYD M6

Next on the list is the BYD M6, an electric MPV sold in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Per the brochures found on the brands’ websites, the BYD M6 uses a permanent magnet synchronous motor situated on the seven-seater’s front wheel axle. The electric drive draws power from the BYD Blade battery with a capacity that ranges from 55.4 to 71.8 kilowatt-hours (kWh).

The said arrangement makes 160 to 201 hp with 310 Nm and a range that goes from 420 to 530 km.

With seven seats, the BYD M6 could well be a staple in the country’s MPV segment mainly thanks to the successful electric vehicle charging network established by the Ayala-owned ACMobility and the salvo of releases made by Ayala-led BYD Cars Philippines.

Because more and more Filipinos are now open to adopting electric mobility, the stylish and streamlined seven-seater could be a hit among modern families who are conscious about sustainable mobility.

Price-wise, the BYD M6 sets back Indonesian buyers from IDR379,000,000 (approximately P1.367 million) to IDR429,000,000 (at least P1.546 million).

    Final thoughts

While we did cover a wide range of models, three of the mentioned nameplates use a hybrid or an all-electric powertrain.

On that note, having these vehicles not only make the MPV and crossover inn the country more exciting but also help the Philippines make better strides in sustainable mobility.
