2019 Jeep Cherokee: First impression

2019 Jeep Cherokee: First impression
Contents

Jeep unveiled the 2019 Cherokee along with the 2019 Wrangler at a recent event in the country. The two new Jeeps will be sold by the Auto Nation Group who is the official distributors of Jeep vehicles in the Philippines.

While the news of Jeep bringing its latest offerings in the country would have brought joy to the potential customers, we can’t say the same for the other brands already fighting a war in the SUV segment. Jeep has an excellent record in its work and that would bother its rivals a bit.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Front Angular

If you’re interested in knowing the 2019 Jeep Wrangler, you can check out our first impression story on that. Today, it’s all about the new Cherokee. Here is our first impression of this vehicle.

Looks

2019 Jeep Cherokee Side View

The Cherokee has always been a good looking SUV. It belongs to the same Jeep clan that has the Wrangler but it doesn’t look like that. The face of the 2019 Cherokee shows anger but there is also a hint of elegance or class. If you look at the headlamps and the LED daytime running lights,

it appears that the Cherokee is annoyed about something and is frowning. We also have the iconic front grille. The seven vertical slats have become a traditional thing with Jeeps. Unlike in the Wrangler, these slats are not that large and that suits the overall appearance of the vehicle.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Rear View

We also like the chrome touches around the fog lamps in the front bumper. In fact, for the 2019 model, Jeep has tweaked the design of the front bumper a little bit. The 2019 Cherokee successfully carries out its muscular look.

While Jeep has made certain changes at the front of the new Cherokee, the rest of the SUV remains mostly untouched. The side profile looks as good as ever thanks to the noticeable wheel arches and sporty roof rails. The rear end has a roof-mounted spoiler and a chrome diffuser. The taillights have a signature LED bar and carries the elegant look of the front very well.

Interior

2019 Jeep Cherokee Dash

The interior of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee would be a familiar place for you if you’d been in the cabin of the previous generation model. Jeep hasn’t changed a lot here. We understand the interior of the Cherokee is pretty darn good but Jeep could’ve done a bit more to freshen up things a bit.

Anyway, we aren’t complaining. You get enough luxury and tech-savvy features here. The seats are nicely bolstered and provide good support and comfort. The cabin space is good and can accommodate all the passengers with ease.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Seating

The Jeep logo on the steering wheel is one of our favourite interior features of the Cherokee. It makes you feel you are in command of something extraordinary.

For the 2019 model, Jeep has added its Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system which we also saw in the latest Wrangler. Apart from that, we have redesigned HVAC controls and the centre console.

Engine and performance

2019 Jeep Cherokee Engine

Being from the Jeep family, the 2019 Cherokee is a capable SUV. It is powered by a 2.4L MultiAir2 inline 4-cylinder engine which has been tuned in a state to produce 184 PS of max power and generate 232 Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

By the looks of the Cherokee, it isn’t an off-road thrashing SUV, which is true. Also, the 2019 Jeep Cherokee specs don’t show specific equipment dedicated for improving off-road driving abilities. But it can certainly do some of it if not all. Perhaps, the new 2.0L turbocharged engine that Jeep might offer in the future would do some more good.

We are glad that Jeep finally decided to bring something new in the Philippines. As far as the 2019 Jeep Cherokee price and full details are concerned, Auto Nation Group has said some alterations have to be made and everything will be up on the table in June. On the other hand, the 2019 Jeep Wrangler price and specs are already confirmed.
