2020 McLaren Elva Supercar has no windows, roof, or windshield

MANILA: The McLaren Automotive just unveiled its latest sports car, the 2020 Elva. McLaren’s latest offering is their lightest, most extreme road car thus far with no windows, roof, or windshield that can go from zero to 100 kmph in less than three seconds.

The new Elva was developed by McLaren which got its name from the British race car manufacturer which it teamed up with during the 1960s to sell custom cars. The design of the Elva pays homage to the original roofless style but with modern styling to fit the current market. IT has tons of curves and creases from the front to the rear which takes into consideration aerodynamic properties. bespoke carbon fiber chassis, along with carbon brakes, seats, body panels, and the lack of windshield makes it the lightest car.

The sport’s car 804-horsepower twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, rear-wheel-drive, seven-speed transmission can produce a maximum of 804 Hp of power. Coupled with the power-to-weight of the car, a key component in making the Elva a supercar that can go from zero to 100km/h and zero to 200km/h in just 6.7 seconds,

a split second faster than Senna’s 6.8 seconds. And if you think that you’ll need a helmet to keep your face on when driving on that speed due to lack of a windshield, don’t panic. The vents in Elva’s nose is part of the McLaren’s Active Air Management System (AAMS) that creates a buffer in the cabin so there’s no need for a shield to deflect the wind.

According to McLaren, the AAMS works by channeling the air through the vents on the nose of the car to come out of the “front clamshell at high velocity ahead of the occupants before being directed up over the cockpit to create a relative ‘bubble’ of calm. The system comprises a large central inlet situated above the splitter,

a front clamshell outlet vent and a discreet carbon fiber deflector that raises and lowers vertically; when the AAMS is active, the deflector is deployed at the leading edge of the hood outlet, rising 5.9 inches into the freestream to create a low-pressure zone at the vent.” But if you are not sure of the science and engineering behind the bubble shield, a windshield option is available.

Speed and style are not just what the new 2020 Elva is all about. It also values functionality with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, lightweight carbon shell seats that support the head, shoulder, and back, and a small storage compartment that can hold a weekend duffle bag or two helmets at the rear tonneau.

The new 2020 McLaren Elva is ultra-exclusive, the company said it would only produce 399 units. And because of the cost of entry, rarity, elegant design, and superior performance, the starting price for the latest McLaren Ultimate Series model is at a jaw-dropping Php85,677,930 ($1.69 M). The Elva is expected to reach international markets around the fourth quarter of 2020.
