A Big Hit GLC Coupe Might Drop the Top in Future

MANILA: Mercedes-Benz is not wasting even a single moment in climbing the ladder of success, as Michael Kelz, Chief Engineer for Mercedes-Benz GLC, CLS and E-Class revealed the company's plans of considering GLC Cabriolet in the future.

The three-pointed star brand hit it hard at the New York Auto Show 2016 where it introduced the GLC Coupe to rival the BMW X4 and in future, a soft-top GLC could be seen battling with the Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet. Kelz has always been vocal about the company's ideas and in an interview with the Autocar at the show, he stated that it would be fun to play with the idea of rolling out the soft-top GLC but it will take one hell of a time.

It wouldn't come as a surprise if the drop-top GLC would actually roll out on the floor as coupe is the forerunner of cabriolet and both have a lot in common except the pillar and the roof. The German automaker has not had any soft-top SUV since the plans of manufacturing the roofless G-Class was lost in air in 2013.

However, if the vague idea of the GLC Cabriolet do materialize, then another model from the lineup would have to be chopped off as there is no spare space in the brand's line up at the moment.

A Rendered image has also been published for those having hard time imagining the topless version of the Coupe. According to Kelz, the convertible will carry the same powertrain as its donor GLC coupe, which will be on sale in UK this September with the range-topping GLC 43 Coupe.

It seems like Mercedes-Benz has plans to give hard time to the British auto conglomerate Range Rover in the crossover segment, as the introduction of GLC cabriolet  will enter the territory exclusively developed  by Evoque.
