Bentley starts producing limited-run Blower Junior

MANILA: Bentley, together with Hedley Studios, has started the production period of the limited-edition “Blower Junior” retro-style all-electric replica of the iconic 1929 Bentley Blower. 

To note, the Crewe-based brand has signed off on the production of the Blower Junior by Hedley Studios after extensive testing on the Channel Island of Jersey. Now, the intriguing blend of classic old-world styling and modern all-electric mobility is available for order and will be delivered to buyers in a few months, with only 349 examples to be produced. 

Regarding its specifications, the two-seater electric vehicle (EV) features a 48-volt electric motor capable of producing 20 horsepower. The aforementioned translates to a top speed of 72 kilometers per hour (kph) and a range of 104 kilometers. 

The model is street legal in the United Kingdom and Europe. Examples heading to the United States, however, will be limited to a top speed of 25 kph, per government regulations. 

The vehicle also comes with a drive mode selector and a lever-type gear selector that was made to appear and feel like the original Blower’s ignition advance control. 

Other features of the Blower Junior include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Borrani spoke wheels
• Oval Bentley sidestep
• Rope-bound steering wheel
• Analog range meter
• Vintage lap counter

Other than the aforementioned, the Blower Junior doesn’t have much in the way of tech, which is, of course, in keeping with its retro-style trappings. As Bentley claimed, however, Hedley Studios made sure that it lived up to the same quality, attention to detail, and craftsmanship that the mainline Bentley products are known for. 

For those unfamiliar, the Blower Junior is an 85 percent scale replica of the original Blower - a historic automobile powered by a 4.4-liter supercharged inline-4 mill for its top-spec “touring model”. 

In total, the original Blower's large displacement engine could produce up to 240 horsepower, which aided in netting a second-place finish for Bentley at the 1930 French Grand Prix and 500 miles of Brooklands. The older, “4 and a half” non-supercharged version, however, previously gained an overall victory at the 1928 24 Hours of Le Mans. 

On that note, the Blower Junior, Hedley Studios says, “is more than just a car. It’s an opportunity to own a piece of history.”
