BYD joins AVID

MANILA: The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) has shaken the Philippine automotive industry anew by gaining BYD as a member.

In fact, BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director Bob Palanca and Denza Philippines (which is under the Chinese automaker’s local arm) Country Head Adam Hu also took part in the AVID Summit.

An insider told Zigwheels Philippines that within the growing group, Palanca serves as the organization’s vice president—while Maria Fe Agudo (Hariphil Asia Resources Incorporated vice chairman, president and chief executive officer) continues to hold the group’s top post.

Other newly-hailed officials include PGA Group’s Sherwin Sambo as treasurer and Legado Motors Incorporated’s Giovanni Frias as corporate secretary.

When asked for a statement, Agudo welcomed its newest members and stressed the importance of unity amid fair competition.

“For over 15 years, AVID has proven that competitors can work together to advance a fair, consumer-focused automotive industry. As mobility rapidly evolves through electrification, AI, and digital innovation, AVID remains committed to championing policies that encourage investment, expand consumer choice, and accelerate the adoption of cleaner and smarter mobility solutions,” Agudo told Zigwheels Philippines.

“AVID today is about preparing the industry for the future - advocating clear regulations, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the Philippines remains competitive in ASEAN’s transition toward sustainable and technology-driven mobility,” she added.
