Diesel prices set to spike anew

MANILA: The price of diesel products is set to undergo yet another set of hikes this week.

For those watching the movement of petroleum prices in the past month, diesel products are the ones that have had the most dramatic increase, with sport utility vehicle (SUV) and pickup truck owners spending upwards of P8,000 for a full tank.

And while the cost of filling up diesel-powered vehicles has subsided, the Department of Energy announced yet another round of hikes that will push diesel fuel prices to jump anywhere from P3.77 to P5.77 per liter.

The same goes for the price of kerosene, which will see an increase of P6.10 to P8.10 per liter.

On the other hand, gasoline prices could either be reduced by P1.70 per liter or raised by P0.30 per liter. 

“Ang mga pagbabagong ito ay nakabatay sa galaw ng pandaigdigang merkado ng langis, sa gitna ng patuloy na kaganapan sa Middle East na nakakaapekto sa global supply at presyo (These changes are based on the movements of the global oil market, amid ongoing events in the Middle East that are affecting global supply and prices),” the agency wrote in a social media announcement. 

“Patuloy ang pagkilos ng Department of Energy upang mapalakas ang supply ng langis at mapangalagaan ang kapakanan ng publiko (The Department of Energy continues to take action to boost oil supply and safeguard the public's welfare),” it added. 

The adjustments is effective starting tomorrow (June 9) until next Monday (June 15).
