BYD Shark 6 arrival in PH confirmed

MANILA: The expansion of BYD's "Ocean series" lineup in the Philippines has been established after records from the Land Transportation Office confirmed the Shark 6's entry to the local market.

Based on the government agency's records, the model is a plug-in hybrid pick-up truck that has the following overall dimensions:

Length, width, height (in millimeters [mm>)	5,457 x 1,971 x 1,925
Wheelbase (in mm)	3,260
Ground clearance (in mm)	230
Gross vehicle weight (in kilograms)	3,500

Powering the electrified model is a four-cylinder, 1.5-liter gasoline engine with electric motors mated to a lithium iron phosphate battery, which can be juiced up in as fast as 45 minutes using a DC charger.

To note, the BYD Shark 6 abroad has a 1.5-liter mill with two permanent magnet synchronous motors paired with a 29.58-kilowatt-hour Blade battery.

With the aforementioned configuration, the vehicle can reportedly reach the following output

Top speed (in kilometers per hour)	160

Maximum range (in kilometers)	460

The aforementioned five-seater model will be offered in two trims namely:

• Advanced
• Premium

Both variants will be fitted with 18-inch wheels wrapped in 265/65 tires.

Earlier, BYD Cars Philippines dropped a hint on social media, asking what Filipino car buyers do right after they buy a pickup truck. 

While it is not mentioned in the LTO records, the soon-to-be-released model will likely have a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment that is Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatible and a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster as retailed overseas.

In addition, the BYD Shark 6 might also have the following technologies such as: 

• Keyless entry, start
• NFC card
• Wireless phone charger 
• 12-volt accessory sockets
• Automatic dual-zone air conditioning 
• Rear cabin power outlets 
• Vehicle-to-load charging 

Safety-wise, the BYD Shark gets a handful of features like airbags and seatbelts as well as a 360-degree-view camera and sensors. It also gets adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist, rear collision warning, and traffic sign recognition, among others.
