Cavitex readying for traffic surge as face-to-face classes resume this month

MANILA: Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC) and its joint-venture partner, the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA), announced that the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) is now ready for the anticipated increase in traffic volume brought on by the government mandate to fully implement face-to-face classes by November, with some expected to begin as early as August.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How much increase in daily average vehicle count is expected by CIC once face-to-face classes begin?

With more motorists anticipated to travel along the 14-kilometer Cavitex to different schools and universities in Metro Manila, CIC expects a 5% to10% increase in daily average vehicle count compared to current traffic.
  • Where can motorists avail of free Easytrip RFID installation and reloading services along Cavitex?

Motorists can stop by Cavitex Service Centers and at other stations along the expressway for free RFID installation and reloading services.
  • With more motorists anticipated to travel along the 14-kilometer Cavitex to different schools and universities in Metro Manila, CIC expects a 5% to10% increase in daily average vehicle count compared to current traffic. The expressway is currently used by approximately 150,000 motorists daily.

Cavitex had begun operating counterflow lanes for Class 1 vehicles at Manila-bound and Cavite-bound lanes during rush hours of the morning and afternoon to help manage the surging traffic that has now exceeded pre-pandemic levels.

CIC encourages motorists to avail of and use the free Easytrip RFID to avoid long queues at the cash lanes. Motorists can stop by Cavitex Service Centers and at other stations along the expressway for free RFID installation and reloading services. CIC also promotes the use of the MPT DriveHub app, which is available for both iOS and Android devices.

“Our MPT DriveHub app was developed to further elevate our customer experience, so we really encourage them to download it. The app not only allows them to monitor their balance and passages but also provides them with traffic updates that are useful in planning their trips. The app may also be used to connect with us for queries or emergency roadside assistance,” CIC President and General Manager Raul Ignacio stated.

Furthermore, CIC advises motorists to check BLOWBAGETS (battery, lights, oil, water, brake, air, gas, engine, tire, and self) before heading out.

“It is important for our expressway users to ensure the roadworthiness of their vehicles to avoid vehicular breakdowns that may cause inconvenience to them and other motorists. We remind our motorists to perform BLOWBAGETS, and to ensure sufficient balance when passing through RFID lanes for seamless travel,” CIC Vice President for Operations Management Ella Francisco said.

CIC is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the biggest toll road developer in the Philippines.

Aside from Cavitex, MPTC also owns the concessions for Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Connector Road, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
