Model launches, EV displays expected to happen at event

Here's what the public will see at PEVS 2024

The Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) has become the premiere event for new-energy vehicle enthusiasts here in the country.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When will the 12th PEVS take place?

The 12th PEVS will take place at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay.
  • When will PEVS 2024 happen?

PEVS 2024 will happen from October 24-26.
  • Scheduled to run from October 24-26 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City, this year’s electric car conclave looks to gather a handful of carmakers who aim to further the adoption of electric mobility in the Philippines through model launches and other initiatives.

Here is a quick look at some of the vehicles that will be rolled out at the three-day affair.

    BYD Seal

BYD Cars Philippines has confirmed the launch of the Seal high-performance electric vehicle (EV).

According to the local arm of the Chinese automotive brand, the BYD Seal will make its debut on the second day of PEVS 2024 at the marque’s pavilion.

The official specifications of the BYD Seal are yet to be revealed, but BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director Bob Anthony Palanca hinted through an interview with Zigwheels Philippines that the upcoming model might be the all-wheel drive version of the electric car.

Overseas, the said model packs two electric motors and can generate up to 522 horsepower (hp) with 670 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque.

It has an estimated all-electric range of 520 kilometers (km).

    VinFast VF 7

Another vehicle looking to make an official Philippine introduction is the VinFast VF 7.

The low-slung electric sport utility vehicle was previously previewed to the public when VinFast Philippines launched sometime in May at the SM Mall of Asia.

Specifications disclosed during the said preview revealed that the VinFast VF 7 will be offered in two variants — one packing a single motor while the other gets two on each wheel axle.

The standard model makes 174 horses with 250 Nm of pulling power, while the dual-motor variant can push the numbers up to 348 hp with 500 Nm.

Further, the single-motor model can run up to 375 km on a single charge while the range-topping trim can dish out an emissions-free range of 431 km.

    FAW Bestune Pony

FAW Bestune — in partnership with QSJ Motors Philippines Incorporated — has confirmed the launch of the Pony mini EV.

Poised to compete with the other small electric cars like the Jetour Ice Cream, BYD Seagull, and VinFast VF 3, the FAW Bestune Pony looks to attract car buyers who will predominantly ride their cars in the city.

While waiting for the local specifications of the soon-to-be-available city EV, its overseas counterpart can generate up to 27 horsepower and offer owners up to 170 km of range on a single charge.

    Other participating brands

Aside from the abovementioned brands that will stage product launches at the PEVS 2024, other carmakers will also participate and display their electric offerings at the gathering.

These include MG Philippines, who confirmed its attendance via a social media post from its official Facebook page. Although no model lineup was mentioned in the said post, we believe that nameplates such as the 4, Marvel R, and MG 3 Hybrid will be in attendance.

Nissan Philippines, on the other hand, will display the Ariya and Kicks e-Power at PEVS 2024. In addition, the local wing of the Japanese carmaker — per a post on its official Facebook page — will have a Formula E racing sim rig at its booth.

Further, Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) will showcase the Ioniq 5 N at the PEVS 2024.

It announced the return of the performance-oriented compact crossover SUV to the spotlight — also via a Facebook post.

Similarly, eventgoers will get the chance to see Spot, Hyundai’s four-legged assistant robot, created in partnership with Boston Dynamics. Spot — HMPH pointed out — can “dance, open doors, grab objects, and so much more!”
