MG Marvel R

The cabin of the MG Marvel R shares the simplistic but new-age theme, which has been perfectly executed by the exterior of the SUV. The cabin here carries an all-black theme with Nappa leather upholstery as standard, which is further contrasted by satin silver accents on the steering wheel, instrument console surrounds, inner door handles, power window switches and a layer of dashboard below the AC vents.

The three-spoke multi-functional tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel have been shared with the already-on-sale MG products like the HS, with the Marvel R having a 12.3-inch full-TFT instrument console behind it. The centre console is majorly occupied by the massive 19.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which has been placed angularly and also serves as a window for the dual-zone automatic climate control and other vehicular settings on board.

The middle and co-driver sides of the dashboard have a sleek design, with a slim layer at the top accommodating the AC vents in them. For a premium flagship electric SUV, the MG Marvel R is decently loaded with modern features like a panoramic sunroof, 9-speaker BOSE audio system, air purifier, ambient lighting, wireless charger, powered driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats and more.

Based on the Roewe Marvel X, the new MG Marvel R has a very sleek and aerodynamic design, which manages to look new-age without going too overboard and bold. The overall design of the MG Marvel R looks elegant and simple, which will age well, unlike most of the other much bolder-looking SUVs.

At the front, the MG Marvel R has a curvaceous bonnet, which flows down towards a closed grille in the fascia. Here, the Marvel R gets C-shaped slim-looking LED headlamps, which are connected by an LED light bar running across the width of the closed grille. The huge pentagonal-shaped, body-coloured housings on the sides of the front bumper, which have LED fog lamps within them, add visual mass to the otherwise sleek and clean-looking front profile.

The sense of aerodynamism of the MG Marvel R continues in its side profile too, with the SUV having a rather cleaner design which is free of unnecessary creases and curves. The lower part of the door panels and rounded wheel arches have slim body cladding, while the Marvel R rides on 19-inch machined alloy wheels. The Marvel R also gets a sharp curve flowing through the door panels, slim roof rails and chrome garnishes on the rearview mirrors and front fenders.

At the back, there is a hint of modern coupe in the design of the MG Marvel R, with the electric SUV having a raked windscreen and angular C-pillar. The tail lamps here are large, but look sleek, and are all LED units joined by an LED connecting light bar across the width of the boot.

The long wheelbase of 2804mm and large 19-inch wheels give the MG Marvel R a planted stance, making it look and feel sure-footed for an SUV. The feedback from the suspension setup makes the occupants feel comfortable, though the feedback from the steering wheel feels artificial at times, especially at higher speeds.

The only variant of the MG Marvel R on sale in the Philippines comes with a rear-wheel drive configuration, with a single electric motor powering the rear wheels. This 137kW electric motor claims a maximum torque output of 255 Nm and a maximum power output of 184 bhp to the rear wheels. Also on offer is a 70 kWh battery pack, which claims a maximum driving range of 402 km and can be charged from 5-80% in 43 minutes using a Type-2 DC charger.

The modern and feature-rich MG Marvel R further strengthens its case with its long list of safety features, which includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, hill descent control, auto hold, electronic parking brake, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree parking camera, auto headlamps and wipers and tyre pressure monitoring system. It also comes equipped with ADAS as standard, which further adds features like adaptive cruise control, intelligent high beam, speed assistance system, front collision warning, automatic emergency braking, traffic jam assistance, traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear traffic alert, lane change warning, emergency lane keeping, drowsiness warning system and multi-collision braking.

The MG Marvel R looks and feels humble for a new-age premium flagship electric SUV, but it justifies its premium positioning with the comfortable ride quality and the lengthy set of comfort, convenience, and safety features on offer as standard.
