Ferrari reveals one-off, V12-powered Omologata
MANILA: Last September 25, the exceptional Ferrari Omologata, was launched at Fiorano Modenese, Italy.
A vivid orchestration of the features that characterize Ferrari in reference to GT racing, the Omologata joins the marque’s line of distinct coachbuilt one-off models.
Prior to the design of this 10th front-engined V12 one-off, the designers found it challenging to satisfy safety limitations for road homologation without any interference with the tractability and functionality of a Ferrari.
Yet, with the Omologata’s Rosso Magma finish and exquisite racing livery, the new Ferrari proves to be an obvious descendant of the brand’s magnificent GT tradition that has span seven decades in automotive history.
Thus, the Omologata is said to be a vehicle that is perfectly at ease on the road as its V12 engine reverberates around the track.
Since the sketches were presented for the first time, the Ferrari Omologata initiative took more than two years to reach completion. The design began with photos that included a wide range of inspirations, from racing history to science fiction, including connections to modern architecture.
The concept was to establish a futuristic design with the reinterpretation of unique elements to provide the possibility for an iconic shape that would make a huge impact on car aficionados.
The designers extracted every potential area of independence from the fundamental package of the Ferrari 812 Superfast, retaining only the headlights and the windscreen as existing components of the bodywork.
The intention was to leverage the dimensions of the powerful, mid-front layout and provide a sleeker look, characterized by elongated reflections and smooth volumes. Crisp graphics with carefully refined surface breaks dictated by aerodynamic functionality elevated the design of the Omologata.
The designers also studied the car's disposition and stance from all directions, concentrating on the tapering front volume from the flattened oval grille.
The rounded section over the front wheel arches, which is highlighted by an opposing stripe surrounding across the bonnet, appears to naturally show from the grille.
At the rear of the door, the flank is developed into a strong rear muscle that carefully integrates upwards into the three-quarters panel.
The whole volume is rendered purposefully through the removal of the rear quarter light, while three horizontal transversal cuts in the fastback volume subtly decrease the rear mass.
A conspicuous spoiler mounts the tail and it contributes not just downforce, but also a more athletic and rough stance to the Omologata.
Inside the car, an array of trim details indicates a strong connection to the rich racing history of the Ferrari brand.
The electric blue seats of the Omologata are finished in an elegant blend of leather and Jeans Aunde fabric with four-point racing harnesses, and are well-emphasized against a complete black interior.
Without a screen and rear quarter lights, the mood in the cabin is meaningful, which is strongly suggestive of the past era.
The metal components on the steering wheel and dashboard are polished with the effect of crackled paint, which can be linked to iconic GT racers of the 1950s and 1960s along with the engine cam covers of the Ferrari.
A hammered paint effect is frequently utilized in vehicles such as the Ferrari 250 GTO and 250 LM and it is observed on details like the inner door handles as well as on the Ferrari F1 bridge.
The handcrafted aluminum bodywork of the Ferrari Omologata is dotted with almost subtle features, signifying that the car enthusiast needs to recognize the numerous sources of inspiration that have played a role in its conception.
