How much power does the prototype make?
The concept vehicle pushes up to 1,360 horses. How fast can it go?
It has a top speed of 360 kph.Dubbed the Concept AMG GT XX, the prototype looks to set “a new dimension of performance” thanks to its “exceptional technology, supreme endurance, hyper-fast charging, and a highly emotional design.”
Photo by Ruben Manahan IVWhat’s important about the concept model is that, according to the German carmaker, it offers “an impressive insight into a forthcoming four-door series-production sports car from Mercedes‑AMG.”
Some notable features include a three axial flux motor setup, a high-performance battery (which Mercedes-Benz said was developed from scratch), and an abundance of solutions “earmarked” for use in later models from the performance-oriented sub-brand.
“The best minds in our global R&D (research and development) network have contributed their extensive expertise – from Mercedes‑Benz in Sindelfingen and Untertürkheim to Mercedes‑AMG in Affalterbach and YASA (Yokeless And Segmented Armature) in the UK (United Kingdom) to our Formula 1 drivetrain experts at Mercedes‑AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth,” Mercedes-Benz Group Chief Technology Officer for Development and Procurement and Member of the Board of Management Markus Schäfer was quoted as saying.
“Together, they have developed the Concept AMG GT XX and are providing an insight into pioneering drivetrain technology and the future of performance. The technology programme pushes the boundaries even further and ventures into new ground. The Concept AMG GT XX with its three axial flux motors now lifts performance and endurance to a completely new level,” he added.

High-performance axial flux motor
Powering the Concept AMG GT XX are three high-performance axial flux motors that produce some 1,360 horsepower, allowing the concept car to reach top speeds of 360 kilometers per hour.
That’s because Mercedes-Benz pointed out that axial flux motors have three times the power density versus conventional electric motors. In addition, the former is around two-thirds lighter and takes up just one-third of the space of the latter.
The said setup is complemented by a new battery pack with fast charging capabilities. As an example, quickly plugging it in for five minutes gives it an estimated range of approximately 400 kilometers.

We’re bringing groundbreaking technology that redefines high performance. And the best thing is that this car is a true AMG with every fibre of its being. The heart of an AMG was always the motor, and that will remain so with our in-house electric architecture,” Mercedes-AMG Chief Executive Officer and Head of Business Units Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Mercedes-Maybach Michael Schiebe commented.
“With our high-tech axial flux motor, we’re delivering a revolutionary new drive that is unparalleled in terms of power density, weight, and packaging. This pairs with a new performance battery developed from scratch that enables a previously unimagined level of performance and endurance,” he added.
Rebellious looks, 1st-class aerodynamics
The Concept AMG GT XX looks every bit a performance car with a fastback, low-slung bonnet, and sharply raked windscreen.
At the fore is an AMG-specific front grille with ten vertical struts, with the Mercedes star integrated into the center of the latticework. Flanking the meshwork are vertically arranged headlamps complemented by slender, rectangular auxiliary headlights.
Its bonnet also flaunts two-part air outlets, each with two fins. Further, a front splitter extends far around the front of the car with an integrated air-curtain function reaching up to the front wheel arches.

At the back, the concept car has noticeably wide shoulders. The rear wheel arches also flow organically from the flanks. Eye-catching is its wide diffuser in exposed carbon, highlighted by a set of six circular, deep red taillights.
Further aerodynamic appointments come in the form of the following:
- Cooling plate located at the front of the underbody
- Active air control system (Airpanel)
“With the Concept AMG GT XX, we have succeeded in translating our design vision for AMG into the future. Sports cars have always been the icons of our brand; they are emotional and truly special to create. They represent unique moments in time. Icons like the 300 SL and the legendary Silver Arrows are the emotional heart of our brand, as are the GT and AMG ONE,” Mercedes-Benz Group Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener stated.
“Crafting these masterpieces is about creating something extraordinary – from the C111 to the Vision One‑Eleven, and into the future of production. The brand-new Concept AMG GT XX embodies the hot part of our design philosophy of sensual purity,” he concluded.
Innovations for ‘the sports car of the future’
The Concept AMG GT XX not only aims to set the benchmark in performance, but also the future of the sports car with many other innovations inside and out. Here are a few mentioned by Mercedes-Benz:
