LTO ‘finally’ resolves license plate backlog distribution

MANILA: The Land Transportation Office (LTO) revealed that it has finally resolved its license plate backlog issues, which according to the agency “hounded the government for a decade.” 

Per LTO, it was able to produce a total of 18,578,612 number plates (as of June 30), thanks to the ramp up in the past two years — effectively solving the pile up, which is said to have started since 2014. 

When broken down, the aforementioned numbers cover 11,815,068 motorcycle plates and 6,763,544 motor vehicle plates. 

“We are elated and excited to announce that your LTO was able to comply with the commitment to President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ R. Marcos, Jr. that there will be no backlog for both motorcycle and four-wheel vehicle plates by June 2025,” LTO Chief and Acting Secretary Attorney Greg Pua, said. 

“To borrow a quote from our LTO Chief, ASEC (Assistant Secretary) Mendoza: ‘sa Bagong Pilipinas, lahat may plaka na’ (To borrow a quote from our LTO Chief, ASEC Mendoza: ‘under Bagong Pilipinas, everyone has a license plate’),” he added. 

Pua stated that having finally kept up with the backlog was a “significant accomplishment,” which “surpassed the expectations of everybody.” 

Further, he noted that the agency is now embarking on the full-blown delivery of the license plates to all motorists affected by the backlog. 

“On behalf of the men and women of the Team LTO, we express gratitude to our very supportive President Marcos na talagang tinutukan na malutas na itong problema na ito and to Secretary Dizon (referring to Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon) sa kanyang mahalagang inputs pang lalo pang mapabilis ang pagresolba sa problemang ito (On behalf of the men and women of Team LTO, we express gratitude to our very supportive President Marcos who really focused on resolving this problem and to Secretary Dizon for his valuable inputs to further expedite the resolution of this problem),” Pua commented. 

“And with this task finally completed, we assure our millions of clients that we will also fast-track the process of delivery and will continue to find ways to do so,” he added.
