MMDA Opposes Proposal to Remove EDSA Bus Carousel

MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) opposes the proposal of a group of bus operators to remove the EDSA Bus Carousel.

The Mega Manila Consortium Corporation (MMCC) has been calling for the restoration of the bus setup in EDSA, where the yellow lane that is currently used by the bike lane would be retaken.

The MMCC also suggested having two different bus types: the Blue Bus with 14 bus stops and the Red Bus with a point-to-point route.

“EDSA Bus Carousel has been effective in moving the commuters as well as easing traffic along EDSA. Commuter travel time along EDSA was cut in half because of the EDSA Bus Carousel,” MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes stated.

Artes added that such a proposal needs to be thoroughly studied since the government has already spent a significant amount of money on the construction of the EDSA Bus Carousel and Bike Lane.

According to Artes, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) will decide whether or not to remove the EDSA Bus Carousel.
