Nissan lead designer hailed Designer of the Year by 'Newsweek'

MANILA: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Senior Vice President for Global Design Alfonso Albaisa was named Designer of the Year in Newsweek's first World's Greatest Auto Disruptors awards.

The Newsweek World's Greatest Auto Disruptors awards honor the industry's best and brightest in six categories. Albaisa was acknowledged as part of Nissan's Next transformation, a four-year global program that began in 2020 and promises 12 new vehicles, including the all-new Ariya, Frontier, Pathfinder, Rogue, Z, and more.

In a statement, Albaisa said, “Disruption is the job description, so I take great honor in this formal recognition of doing what my team and I were born to do day in and day out. It's also incredibly humbling to receive acknowledgement alongside my incredibly talented industry peers for 34 years of wonderful collaborations at Nissan.”

Since joining the company in 1988, Albaisa has worked on various models and brands under the Nissan Motor Corporation banner, including Nissan, Infiniti, and Datsun. The Z Proto concept, Ariya, Frontier, Pathfinder, Rogue, and Sentra for Nissan Brand, and the QX60 and QX55 for Infiniti are just a few of his recent noteworthy car designs for the US market. Albaisa's designs were also recently awarded as the Best Car Lineup for 2021 in the Newsweek Auto Awards.

Albaisa is also in charge of the company's logos, exhibition spaces, dealerships, and even building architecture.
