Nissan, Toyota, and Mazda also Break Ties with Takata

MANILA: Not many days have passed when Honda broke the news of ending the ties with prominent airbag supplier, Takata, and now following the league are the other well known auto brands, Nissan, Mazda, and Toyota. They declared they will no longer use Takata airbags in future cars due to company’s defective devices which caused the largest safety recall to date.

Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda said that the company’s decision to drop Takata as their airbag supplier is a action to solely provide peace of mind to its customers. “The inflator using ammonium nitrate produced by Takata will not be adopted by Toyota. What’s most important above anything else is the safety and peace of mind of customers,” Toyoda said.

The Nissan spokesman Dion Corbett also announced that they will no longer use inflators containing ammonium nitrate in future cars. “In line with the recent announcement from the United States' National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, we have decided to no longer use inflators containing ammonium nitrate in airbags for future models. We will continue to put our customers' safety first and work to replace the inflators in vehicles under recall as quickly as possible," Corbett said.

Mazda Motor Corp. has also cut the ties with Takata and Subaru and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. are considering to do the same. The problem faced by people world over due to Takata faulty airbags is known to all of us but seeing this step of auto brands, we can say that they are doing what was needed, so as to regain customers trust and enjoy safe brand image in long run.
