MANILA: The P5,000-fuel subsidy will be distributed to public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers starting next week amid the rising fuel prices caused by the Middle East crisis.

Those who operate jeepneys, taxis, UV Express, buses, and transport network vehicle services will have the said aid under “Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation” program next.
To note, the DSWD budget for 2026 includes more than P60 billion — with P30 billion already on standby and available for immediate use during a crisis.

Aside from the subsidy, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez has the Service Contracting Program (SCP), which also provides cash subsidies through payouts to affected PUV drivers for contracting public transport services.
Per the transportation secretary, Marcos Jr. ordered them to start releasing the financial assistance and not wait for the condition of breaching the $80 per barrel to start the financial assistance.
