Toyota PH unveils GR-S variants of Fortuner and Hilux

MANILA: Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has further expanded its Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) lineup with the launch of the Fortuner GR-S and Hilux GR-S. The two new trims riding on the same international multi-purpose vehicle (IMV) platform were first unveiled at the second leg of this year’s TGR Vios Cup.

“We mark another milestone as we combine the reliable IMV platform with Toyota Gazoo Racing’s spirit of thrill,” TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto stated at the official launch event.

The development of the GR-S badge was influenced by TGR, Toyota’s global motorsports division concentrating on specialized research and production of cars developed with racing DNA.

“When Toyota Motor Philippines first introduced the IMV series in 2005, we had a vision of bringing in dependable and durable vehicles perfect for the needs of Filipinos. Fifteen years later, our IMVs continue to be a worthy companion for adventures, daily trips, and tough demands of the country’s many roads. Under the development of Toyota Gazoo Racing, we are bringing the motorsports excitement to your daily drives with a sportier, heart-racing reinvention that pushes the limits of the models we know and love,” Okamoto added.

TMP aims to provide sportier options for motorsports enthusiasts who want to express their passion through their vehicles. “Now with the latest additions to the GR lineup, the daring and adventurous fans of TMP’s best-selling sports utility vehicle (SUV) and pickup get to experience the TGR thrill with their favorite Toyota models,” TMP said in a statement.

The new GR-S models feature a more aggressive exterior. The Fortuner GR-S gets a new front and rear bumper, fog lamp garnish, body color arch mold and back door garnish, and bi-tone rear spoiler. Meanwhile, the Hilux GR-S features a black gloss G-mesh front grille with a Toyota emblem running across the vehicle’s front. Both models are equipped with 18-in alloy wheels with machine-cut finish and black-tinted clear coating.

The two new GR-S models also feature a red, black, and smoke silver metallic-accented GR interior. The steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and sport-type front seats are all wrapped in leather with red stitching. The Fortuner GR-S gets matte carbon trims on the center cluster, while the Hilux GR-S comes with paddle shifters. Both models are also equipped with eight-way power adjust seats and a dual zone air-conditioning system.

The hood-lift assist on both models makes accessing the engine bay easier, while the kick-sensor on the Fortuner GR-S power back door promises more convenient cargo loading and unloading.

The GR-S variant is the first Hilux to get a panoramic view monitor. Meanwhile, the Fortuner GR-S comes with a pre-collision system, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control  panoramic view monitor, blind spot monitor, and rear cross traffic alert.

Both models feature new front GR brake calipers and new monotube-type suspension, ensuring a stable ride and race-like steering feel. The Fortuner GR-S also comes with rear GR brake calipers.

The Fortuner GR-S and Hilux GR-S will be available in all Toyota dealerships nationwide starting November 3. The Fortuner GR-S comes in two color variants: White Pearl CS and Attitude Black Mica. It is priced at P2.509 million. Meanwhile, the Hilux GR-S is available in three colors: Emotional Red, Super White, and Attitude Black Mica. Pricing starts at P1.985 million.
