The most extravagant car Toyota has ever produced, the new Supra sportscar marks the re-entry of the brand back in the modern era, since the previous generation Supra was discontinued back in 2002. The all-new Supra has been relaunched back in 2019, and while it still has a minimal design ethos of previous Supra, it is a completely new model with a futuristic appeal to it. Available in a single variant, the new Toyota Supra will set you back by PHP 4,990,000.
While the Toyota Supra looks extremely aggressive and cutting edge on the outside, things have been kept a bit too subtle on the inside. While there is no dearth of premium appeal inside the cabin, it doesn’t belong to a sports car of this cadre.
The round themed steering wheel looks quite simple, however, the full LCD instrument console with digital readouts indeed looks cool. The minimal theme for the dashboard with sleek looking AC vents and cluster of buttons in center console feels well built and posh. Going with the trend, the free-standing trapezoidal-shaped touchscreen infotainment system is slick to use, and it houses controls for the fantastic 12-speaker audio system from JBL.
Both the front seats in the Toyota Supra feel supremely plush and made up of Alcantara leather. Apart from the aforementioned ones, other prominent features of Toyota Supra do include eight-way electrically adjustable driver seat, push-button start with keyless entry, cruise control, electric parking brake, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
There is no denying the fact that how brilliantly Toyota has pulled on the things from where it left, as far as overall visual appeal of the new Supra is concerned. This new model looks like an extrovert looking evolution of the previous generation Supra, with much more enhanced and sharper personality.
Take for instance, the front fascia of the new Toyota Supra still continues to have the horizontally wide and big headlamps, which this time has got wonderful-looking LEDs. The well crafted front bumper with aerodynamic wings makes it look even sportier.
The side profile of the Toyota Supra continues to have the long bonnet and compact doors theme. The sleek and hidden aerodynamic vent in the side doors and blackened A-pillar, along with large 19-inch wheels with red coloured brake calipers, do catch a lot of attention.
At the rear too, the vertically laid theme for tail lamps in the previous generation model of the Supra has made way for the sleeker and curvier LED units. The pronounced hump in the rear boot, as well as large blackened rear bumper inserts with dual exhaust pipes, do give it a mean stance.
Sharing its basic architecture with the BMW Z4 along with the engine, the Toyota Supra has been bestowed with double joint type MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear. This adaptive variable suspension setup gets the added assistance of limited-slip differential at the rear, which along with low profile tires wrapped around sporty 19-inch wheels, give the Supra amazing handling characteristics. However, a mild downside to this is slightly stiff ride quality.
Under the long and nicely sculpted bonnet of the Toyota Supra houses a 3.0-litre, twin-turbo, inline six-cylinder petrol engine. The engine is good enough to produce a maximum power output of 338 PS and a peak torque output of 500 Nm. The engine is coupled to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and channels the power produced to the rear wheels.
Being one of the most sophisticated and premium products coming out of Toyota’s stable, the Supra is armed with state-of-the-art safety features, like seven airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, seat belt pretensioners with load limiters, heated outside rearview mirrors and electric parking brake.
The Toyota Supra is a true blue sportscar both in terms of visual appeal and performance, which do make its intentions clear that it is targeting entry-level sports cars and grand tourers of other carmakers. While it could have been equipped with few more attractive comfort and convenience as well as safety features, it does feel premium and sporty enough for its price.
