ZW weekly wrap: Aug 24-28

MANILA: A handful of local players have launched new products covering both the four-wheel and two-wheel segments of the Philippine vehicle industry. Likewise, brands continue to push their respective initiatives to help bolster sales and presence. 

On that note, here is the abridged version of the biggest news stories that happened this week.

Local launches 

MG S5 EV 

Joining the growing number of rear-wheel-drive electric hatchbacks is the MG S5 EV. 

It uses an electric motor with a 49-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery, that generates 167 horsepower (hp) and 250 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque. Range is 415 kilometers (km). 

The MG S5 EV will set buyers back some P1.448 million. It is currently sold with an introductory price of P1.408 million. 

Nissan Kicks e-POWER 

Nissan Philippines released the updated Kicks e-POWER this week. 

It retains the familiar 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a 2.06-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery and an electric motor. The said setup makes 134 hp and 280 Nm. 

Buyers will be set back from P1.499 million to P1.749 million. 

Honda Click 125 Street 

In the two-wheel sector, Honda Philippines Incorporated added the “Street” trim for the Click 125 scooter. 

Notable features include a naked handlebar; larger size, grip point, and ride height; a chiseled instrument panel; as well as red-and-blue decals designed to appeal to the younger generation. 

Retained is its four-stroke, two-valve, single overhead cam, liquid-cooled, 125 cubic centimeter engine with programmed fuel injection and enhanced smart power technologies mated to an automatic transmission. 

It is priced at P90,000. 

Other news 

In other news, Suzuki Philippines Incorporated will conduct a two-day auto festival at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City this weekend. Meanwhile, Isuzu Philippines Corporation has delivered a pair of NPR85 Class III public utility vehicles to Perlas RCG Transport Tours Corporation. 

Finally, Inchcape said goodbye to Changan as the two companies end their distribution partnership.
