Ducati to bring Radar-Sensor bike by 2020

MANILA: Safety concerns for all automobile companies around the world are gradually becoming the peak parameter to be worked on. And these safety parameters are getting higher on the two-wheeler segment as well, with the premium brands taking the lead. Ducati, an Italian two-wheeler manufacturer, has now announced the safety strategy that it would be adopting till 2025.

The technology to be used in Ducati motorcycle is the ARAS (Advanced Rider Assistance Systems), which would increase the safety level of the riders as it employs a good number of sensors and radars. These sensors would be capable of providing feedback to the rider about the surrounding to help prevent a possible collision with any obstacle or any other vehicle on the road.

The development of this system started way back in 2016 in conjunction with the Bioengineering of Politecnico di Milano University and the Department of Electronics Information. It is based on the rear radar warning system, which can identify the vehicles present behind, or any vehicle approaching at pace from behind or the blind spot.

Later in 2017, Ducati again chose a primary technology partner to ensure that the system is suitable for production and complete the package by adding another radar sensor at the front-end. The sensor present at the front is used to maintain cruise control. Also, the sensors in the front can help maintain distance from the vehicle in front and make alerts if there are chances of collision. The system can be pre-defined by the rider.

This radar-based sensor technology will be given on any one of the Ducati motorcycles by the end of 2020. But apart from this, Ducati has implemented the first step towards the strategy “Safety Road Map 2025”. This program includes progressive additions of Cornering ABS from Bosch to the entire product range. This Cornering ABS system ensures safety to the riders from falling over even while braking at corners. Ducati already offers Cornering ABS as a standard fitment in the Scrambler 1100.

Hence, in the coming years, the motorcycle segment around the globe would be experiencing a major makeover, especially when it comes to protection and safety of the riders and pillion, employing the best technology possible.
