Meet the lightest and fastest Ducati
MANILA: The 2017 lineup of the Italian bike manufacturer, Ducati is all set to rule the track and from its strong lineup, the all-new 1299 Superleggera has been revealed at the EICMA. The Italian bike manufacturer has made extensive use of carbon fibre, which has contributed to reducing the weight of the bike to a great extent, weighing just 160 kg.
The use of carbon fibre has been done in the frame, swingarm, wheels and even the fairing is evolved with the use of carbon fibre. The 1299cc L-twin motor has also undergone a series of changes which has resulted in an improved power output of 212 hp. The changes include 2-segment pistons with 116 mm diameter to improve the compression ratio and aluminium cylinder liners to reduce weight, enhanced-diameter titanium intake and exhaust valves.
All the power of this beast is controlled by Ducati’s new electronics package that makes use of 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). This system works in conjunction with the traction control to give better handling to the rider and Ducati Slide Control which ensures better performance at tight corners. Some of the other features include engine brake control and launch control, which is equipped for the first time in any bike of Ducati.
Taking care of bumps is the Ohlins manually adjustable suspension which is equipped at the front and the rear. With Ducati 1299, the proud owner of this speed machine will also get a track kit. The racing kit includes Akropovic titanium racing exhaust, plate holder, removal kit, kickstand removal kit, mirror replacement plugs, a racing screen, front and rear paddock stands.
As the bike is a limited edition model, the probability of spotting it on the Philippines’ roads is quite low.
