VinFast PH debunks 3 e-motorcycle myths

MANILA: There is no denying the impact VinFast’s two-wheeler division has had on the local motorcycle industry in the past few months. From reintroducing the battery swapping concept to offering a subscription program for its offerings, the Vietnamese mobility brand created quite the buzz. 

But can its products live up to the hype—and more importantly—prove the common misconceptions about electric motorcycles wrong? 

On that note, here are three myths (debunked by owners), according to VinFast E-Motorcycles Philippines.

Reliability 

Early adopters of VinFast E-Motorcycles in the Philippines use their rides for work commutes, quick grocery errands, and an occasional inter-city companion for long weekends.

According to the manufacturer, owners of the VinFast Evo have found what they need and more. The entry-level retro-style model can produce as much as 6.9 horsepower (5200 watts [W> maximum power output with two batteries), reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour, and travel up to 150 kilometers (with two batteries). 

Battery charging—VinFast E-Motorcycles Philippines noted—takes only four and a half hours. Some users reportedly needed only to charge once in three days for home-work-home use.

That said, it appears to check all the boxes for city dwellers and urban workers.

Adaptability 

For some motorcycle owners, a real-life test for a motorcycle’s capability to adapt to varying road conditions is its ability to survive EDSA’s (Epifanio de los Santos Avenue) unpredictability, especially during the recent months that brought in heavy rains. 

Per VinFast E-Motorcycles, all models from its lineup have undergone 650,000 dynamic durability-test cycles and were awarded IP67 certification for their motor and Motor Control Unit. As for total and prolonged flood submersion, the electric two-wheelers can withstand being in 0.5 meters of water for 30 minutes, as well as 30 minutes of driving through water at the same depth.

All models are equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries, known to offer high thermal stability and a long cycle life. As such, the VinFast Evo, Feliz II, and Viper can traverse the Balintawak Interchange or EDSA worry-free despite unpredictable weather conditions.

Charging 

When it comes to juicing up, VinFast E-Motorcycle Philippines highlights its models’ fast-charging capabilities, with owners building a routine they call “charge, chill, ride.”

A single battery can be recharged for just four and a half hours (nine hours for two batteries) using a standard outlet, which most Fillipino riders already have at home. A single battery can provide up to 85 kilometers, which the company said can make going to and from work a breeze.  

“With proper planning, losing power in the middle of the road is a non-issue,” it wrote in a press release.

All VinFast electric two-wheelers can be charged through a standard residential outlet using the provided charger, or via a 1,000 W fast charger, which can be purchased as an after-sales option.

The marque shared that some riders even go the extra mile and maximize the growing movement of at-home solar-powered electricity systems to charge their motorbikes, which lets riders charge their units worry- and hassle-free with zero added costs.
