BMW M4 Coupe Competition Interior & Features
Like the M3 Sedan Competition, the cabin of the BMW M4 Competition is also based on that of the 3-Series sedan, with a host of added touches for increased exclusivity. BMW offers eight types of leather M Sport seats, eight BMW Individual leather upholstery options, eight leather M Carbon bucket seat options, three interior trim finisher options and three BMW Individual interior trim finisher options to choose from, just like how it is for the M3 Sedan Competition.
The BMW M4 Competition has a trapezoidal-shaped centre console and infotainment system above it. Draped in high-quality leather, the cabin of the M4 Competition also has carbon fibre touches on the M leather steering wheel and paddle shifters. The M steering wheel also has a full-TFT instrument console with Driving Assistant Professional behind it, while the touchscreen infotainment system has also controls for M Drive Professional. Other features gracing the cabin of the BMW M4 Competition are a coloured head-up display, 12-speaker Harman Kardon music system, ambient lighting, ventilated seats, three-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging, wi-fi hotspot, and M seat belts.
M4 Coupe Competition Exterior
The BMW M4 was introduced first as a two-door coupe version of the M3 Sedan and continues to wear the same hat in the current second-generation version. This new version, which debuted globally in 2020, dropped a lot of jaws with its astonishing design. However, the bold styling became a bit subjective, with it drawing polarized opinions.
The main reason behind the subjectiveness of the front-end styling of the BMW M4 Competition is its vertically-designed dual kidney grille, which according to some, is a bit too radical. However, the rest of the design of the M4 Competition is wholly likeable with it getting wing-like horizontally stretched Laser LED headlamps, which here are full Laser units. The front bumper of the M4 Competition has sharp-looking air dams and passages recessed in its corners.
With a two-door layout with frameless doors and a sharply sloping roofline, the BMW M4 Competition draws its line of distinctiveness from the M3 Sedan Competition on which it is based. The recesses in the front fenders and BMW M outside rearview mirrors add more visual drama and aerodynamic functionality to the side profile. This sports coupe is also offered with multiple 19-inch and 20-inch M forged alloy wheel options to choose from.
Like the front profile, the rear profile of the BMW M4 Competition also has many similarities with the M3 Sedan Competition, with the coupe also getting sleek tail lamp units with flashy LED inserts. The BMW M4 Competition can also be equipped with the M carbon exterior package for an added touch of outrageousness, which adds carbon fibre finish inserts on the front bumper, exterior rearview mirror, front fender air passages, rear spoiler, and rear bumper diffuser. The rear bumper here has a gloss-black diffuser and a quad exhaust pipe setup.
BMW M4 Coupe Competition Ride & Handling
With this latest-generation version, the new BMW M4 Competition continues its supremacy in driving dynamics, by having top-level hardware and electronics to make it a driver’s delight. Like all the modern-day BMW M offerings, the new M4 Competition comes with adaptive M suspension as standard, which has three driving modes – COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+. Each driving mode has a dedicated suspension damping setup, and the driver can select one of them depending on his preference.
The new BMW M4 Competition also features the M Race Track package, which consists of several high-quality components like the M Carbon ceramic brake, M Driver’s package, and M Sport exhaust system, which produces different exhaust notes for SPORT and SPORT+ modes. The M4 Competition also has an M steering wheel with controls for adjusting the dynamic stability control mode, engine and suspension setups, and steering and braking behaviour.
M4 Coupe Competition Engine & Fuel Consumption
Apart from much of the exterior and interior, the BMW M4 Competition also shares its 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine and the 8-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with the M3 Sedan Competition. This powertrain combination claims a maximum power output of 510 bhp, while the peak torque output is rated at 650 Nm, making it one of the most powerful cars wearing the BMW badge.
With this engine, the BMW M4 Competition claims an electronically-restricted top speed of 250 kmph and a 0-100 kmph timing of 3.5 seconds, though buyers have the option to stretch the top speed to 290 kmph by opting for the M Driver package offering by BMW for an added cost.
BMW M4 Coupe Competition Braking & Safety
Besides essential safety features like airbags all around and ABS with EBD and brake assist, the BMW M4 Competition also boasts a myriad of advanced driving assistance aids like lane keep assist, front crossing traffic warning, front collision warning with brake intervention, evasion assist, junction warning with brake intervention, Parking Assistant Plus with a 360-degree camera and active park distance control.
M4 Coupe Competition Verdict
The BMW M4 Competition stays true to its claims of being one of the finest cars behind the steering wheel with a bonkers performance from its twin-turbo petrol engine and sharp driving dynamics with near-accurate steering precision and suspension feedback. The front-end styling is subjective, but the overall exterior styling turns several heads, with the M4 Competition also offering high-level luxury and equipment in its cabin.
