It was the iX which debuted BMW’s now-famous curved driver’s display behind the unique-looking hexagonal, multi-functional, electronically adjustable steering wheel. This curved screen includes a 12.3-inch TFT screen for the instrument console and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

The five-seater BMW iX feels spacious due to the flat floorboard and the full-length “Sky Lounge” panoramic roof. A unique feature of this glass roof is that it is shaded electro-chromatically for additional privacy and headroom. The iX also has a unique floating console placed between the front seats. Finished in premium wood, this console serves as a panel for the iDrive controller and an electronic parking brake button. The other features that make the BMW iX feel exclusive and expensive are four-zone automatic climate control with rear AC vents, 3D loudspeakers integrated into the headrests, a premium Bowers & Wilkins audio system, heated and ventilated seats, and a 40-20-40 split pattern for the rear seats.

Debuting an all-new design language, the BMW iX is a fairly large SUV with bulbous proportions and large dimensions, which along with its bold and aerodynamic design language, gives it a marvellous road presence. However, the design can be extremely radical to the taste of many, thus drawing polarized opinions. The BMW iX has a vertically aligned and closed kidney grille with gloss black surrounds at the front, which also serves as an intelligent surface comprising cameras, new-age sensor technology, and heating elements. The front profile also gets sleek all-LED laser headlamps attached to the upper side edges of this kidney grille.

The BMW iX is roughly the same length and size as the X5 when viewed from the side, with its design having an aerodynamic appeal with rectangular contours over the front and rear fenders. The BMW iX has cool touches like flush-type door handles, frameless doors, 22-inch Aero alloy wheels, and a coloured “streamflow” window waistline flowing towards the rear. The thin LED tail lamps and smooth bulges over the boot lid give the iX a muscular appeal at the back.

Adding to its futuristic exterior styling, the BMW iX features an innovative approach to aerodynamics with a completely flat underbody and an active kidney grille that opens only when additional cooling is needed, enhancing its efficiency. The sculpted lines and curves along the sides not only improve airflow but also give the SUV a sleek, modern look. The roofline tapers elegantly towards the rear, creating a dynamic silhouette that suggests motion even when the vehicle is stationary. Based on a new-generation bespoke born-electric architecture and an aluminium spaceframe, the BMW iX has a double wishbone setup at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear as its suspension setup, which gets multi-axle air suspension resulting in a comfortable ride quality. There are multiple drive modes like Comfort, Eco Pro and Sport for a more thrilling driving experience.

The BMW iX is on sale in the Philippines in a single xDrive 40 Sport variant, which comes with a dual-motor setup, with one motor on each axle. These electric motors deliver a combined power output of 326 PS and a combined torque output of 630 Nm and enable the iX to cover the 0-100 kmph run in 6.1 seconds. The BMW iX xDrive 40 Sport on offer also has a 76.6kWh battery pack, with which it claims a maximum range of 425 km (WLTP-certified).

The BMW iX gets several high-tech safety features as a part of the active protection package, such as attentiveness assistance and passive protection for pedestrians. It also packs in eight airbags, automatic stability control, electronic differential lock control, brake assist, dynamic brake lights, cornering brake control, crash sensors, dynamic brake control and ABS with EBD.
