At the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Korean automaker unveiled the all-new 2020 Kia Soul. The car looked amazing with its quirky styling on its iconic boxy shape. Once launched, the new Soul will be available in six trims all featuring aggressive engines and never seen before styling.

Powering the all-new 2020 Soul crossover is either a base 2.0-litre naturally aspirated mill producing 147 PS of power and 179 Nm of torque, or a turbo 1.6-litre unit churning out 201 PS and 264 Nm of torque. A six-speed manual or a CVT is said to feature in the base model. The turbocharged mill, on the other hand, can be paired with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission. A pure electric version of the Kia crossover, known as the Soul EV, was also unveiled alongside at the show.

The Korean automaker Kia offered its Soul in the year 2008 for the first time. The second generation of this Kia car was launched in the year 2014. Over the years, this compact drive went through some upgradations in designing, engine, and features so that it may appeal to its buyers. This compact vehicle is presented with some great features at an affordable price tag, which makes it one of the most competent models in its respective segment. A decent engine beneath the hood of this family drive makes it more desirable. Soul carries the DNA of Kia’s Rio which enhances its efficiency and performance. This entry-level crossover SUV is counted among the affordable and efficient drives in the Philippines while giving a tough competition to its rival brands.

Kia Soul Interior & Features

Slipping inside Kia Soul, you would experience a lavish interior with some sporty features to attract you right at the first look. The leather wrapped multi-functional steering wheel comes with an intuitive command in hands for cruise control, audio system, Bluetooth, and smooth steer. The instrument panel with trip computer and high-tech gauges provide all the information related to the driving for a safe drive. The comfortable seats of this drive are wrapped with leather upholstery for enhanced interior looks and comfort. A high tech entertainment system including a 4.3-inch touchscreen, CD, MP3, AM/FM, AUX, USB connectivity and iPod access are provided in the cabin. 6 speakers packed inside this drive completes this entertainment system and deliver clear sound to all the occupants.

Soul Exterior

The exterior of this compact drive gives an impression of a boxy crossover with sporty features. The sharp styling of Soul includes its narrow chrome plated upper front grille with a broad and distinctly visible dark lower front grille. This front is completed with the beautifully crafted headlamps. There are creases on the bodyline to add sportiness to it with high wheel arches which allow it to run on hilly terrains. Black is used for highlighting the features at the exterior to make it look more appealing. The high mounted tail lamps not only enhance the looks but also ensure ample light for clear visibility during dark. The overall dimensions carried by this car are 4140 mm x 1800 mm x 1600 mm (L x W x H) along with a wheelbase standing at 2570 mm. The 16-inch alloy wheels along with tires measuring 205/55 R16 complete the exterior in the most attractive manner ensuring a good grip and safe drive even during high speeds. Boot space measuring 354-litre is also provided at the rear which can be expanded by 60:40 split folding of all the rear seats.

Kia Soul Engine & Fuel Consumption

Kia Soul is engineered with a sole 1.6-litre CRDi 16V engine which has a capacity to deliver a maximum power output of 128 PS at 4000 rpm along with a maximum torque clocking at 260 Nm between the range of 1900 and 2750 rpm. The acceleration and pick up of this engine coupled with 6-speed automatic transmission is quite decent, allowing to touch 100 kmph from naught in 11.0 seconds with a top speed of 185 kmph. The mileage delivered by this drive is 18.5 kmpl on combined terrains which is pretty good for a family vehicle. The overall performance of this humble engine looks satisfactory for this compact Kia car.

Soul Braking & Safety

Safety is among the major concerns while designing a family car and Soul has been blessed with some of the most trusted safety features to keep you and your loved ones safe. The safety features packed in Kia Soul are ventilated disc brakes at front and drum type brakes at the rear which ensures efficient braking. Airbags are employed for the driver and front passenger to protect them during a hit or collision. Rear Parking Assist is also featured in this crossover to assist you in parking safely.
