Mazda 2 Sedan Review 2025
No matter how fast forward the segment of compact SUVs is growing right now, the evergreen segment of compact sedans will never die too soon. The prime example of this is Mazda 2 seda, which is one of the highest selling models for Mazda in Philippines. Based on the Mazda 2 hatch, the Mazda 2 sedan has gained this popularity owing to its premium appeal in entry level category. The Mazda 2, in its sedan guise, is available in three different variants – Skyactiv S, Skyactiv V+ and Skyactiv R, all of which are being offered with only one petrol engine option. The color options to choose from for Mazda 2 include Soul Red, Aluminium Silver, Black Mica, Deep Crystal Blue, Dynamic Blue Mica, Metropolitan Grey Mica, Smokey Rose Mica and Snowflake White Pearl.
Mazda 2 Sedan Interior & Features
Just like the exterior, the interior of the Mazda 2 sedan too is a good mix of sportiness and sophistication at the same time. The overall design of the dashboard and cabin is quite simple, yet it manages to look complete, the reason of which is the quality of elements and the number of features it comes with.
The driver cockpit looks premium by the presence of the three-spoke round themed steering wheel with silver accents and steering mounted buttons. The instrument console mimics the funky layout of the front fascia, and gets digital panel for readouts of various data on display. The round theme has been retained for the AC vents as well, which get a thin prominent line between them. This line does separate the dashboard in two different partitions, which gets a pop-up style touchscreen infotainment system has been positioned right at the upper portion and three round dials for climate control on the lower one. What makes the simple design of the dashboard feel premium is the subtle mix of leather and premium silver bits around the center console as well as door panels.
The Mazda 2 sedan is quite loaded with features such as push start-stop button, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, manually adjustable driver’s seat, leather upholstery, paddle shifter, ambient lighting and a six speaker audio system with a touchscreen panel which supports both reverse camera and navigation as well. The overall space levels are quite decent, with space enough to seat two adults with ease. However, the limited shoulder-room and headroom due to coupe-like roofline eats up some amount of space for the third passenger.
2 Sedan Exterior
It is quite tough to make an entry level sedan as luxurious and premium as possible, a task which Mazda has successfully achieved while designing the Mazda 2 sedan. thanks to the presence of sharp curves which leads to a fluidic design, the Mazda 2 sedan looks aggressive and modern, which makes it one of the best looking entry-level compact sedans out there in the market.
Given that it is based on its hatchback platform, the Mazda 2 gets the same large open-mouth grille at the front, which does get a characteristic V-shaped chrome garnish on its lower and side portions. The chrome garnish on the side portions of the grille extend towards the eye-brow shaped large headlamps, which along with the projector units and daytime running lamps, look uber cool when lit. Another standout design element happens to be that of the fog lamps, which do get unique wedge-like housing with chrome inserts.
While looking from the sides, the Mazda 2 sedan looks very athletic thanks to its short length complemented fully by the nice curves present on the side doors. The door-mounted rear view mirrors and diamond cut alloy wheels add in some sportiness to the side profile.
At the rear, the Mazda 2 gets a coupe like profile, which do make the car look very aerodynamic, especially after the C-pillar. Unlike its hatch sibling, the rear profile of the sedan version of Mazda 2 doesn’t look basic and unappealing, with the boot lid extension making it look more proportionate and complete
Mazda 2 Sedan Ride & Handling
Given its entry level positioning, the Mazda 2 sedan comes with a simple suspension setup, with the car getting MacPherson struts at the front and a torsion beam at the rear. Though, the presence of Mazda’s famous G-Vectoring control makes the Mazda 2 sedan feel spirited and surefooted, especially around corners with minimal body roll in whatever the driving condition may be.
2 Sedan Engine & Fuel Consumption
The Mazda 2 sedan shares its engine and gearbox combination with its hatchback platform. This means that the Mazda 2 sedan gets a 1.5 liter petrol engine which belts out 108 bhp of power and 139 Nm of torque. The engine comes coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission which gets an additional assistance of paddle shifters. Thanks to Mazda’s innovative i-stop idling technology, the Mazda 2 returns a pretty impressive fuel economy of 22.82 kmpl.
Mazda 2 Sedan Braking & Safety
Despite the fact that the Mazda 2 sedan is the most affordable sedan from entry-level point of view, the car is quite kitted with the essential safety features. The list of safety equipment for Mazda 2 sedan inlcudes dual front airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, dynamic stability control, rear parking sensors, emergency stop signal, ISOFIX mounts and seat belt pre-tensioners with force limiters. However, it does miss out on a couple of additional aids like traction control and hill launch and descent controls, which are present on the international versions of the car.
2 Sedan Verdict
The Mazda 2 sedan might be an entry level car, if the price positioning and dimensions are taken into account. However, apart from these two aspects, it feels premium in every bit. While the overall design of the car is extrovert by segment standards, the interiors feel plush and give that premium appeal which only the cars from a segment above offer. The performance as well as ride quality is quite practical, with the fuel economy and suspension settings making the car quite efficient and comfortable for urban usage.
