Recent Updates of Suzuki Vitara

Suzuki has recently introduced the 2019 Vitara with a fresh look and some bit of updates on the technical side. The front and rear profiles are slightly tweaked. The front grille design is new and so is the bumper. The LED headlamps are sleeker than they were before.

There is a pretty good number of safety features in the 2019 Suzuki Vitara. The top trims have a total of six airbags along with certain other driver’s assistance features like hill hold control and electronic stability programme. There are parking sensors at the rear too, along with pedestrian protection at the front.

Suzuki hasn’t had a successful run with its Grand Vitara in the past. Although a proven product mechanically, the Grand Vitara failed to tug the strings of the hearts of pure compact SUV loyalists. However, that all changed with the rebranded and redesigned new generation Vitara, which simply brought back some life to the nameplate. The new flagship SUV might have ditched the “Grand” suffix from its name, but is actually now grander than before, in terms of appeal and performance. In the Philippines, the Suzuki Vitara is available in three variants – GL, GL+ and GLX, all of which come with a sole powertrain option mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Suzuki Grand Vitara has a range of color options to choose from – while the dual tone paint options are Horizon Orange Metallic with Superior White, Atlantis Turquoise Pearl Metallic with Cosmic Black Pearl Metallic, and Bright Red Metallic with Cosmic Black Pearl Metallic. The single tone paint scheme include Cosmic Black Pearl Metallic, Atlantis Turquoise Pearl Metallic, Galactic Gray Metallic, Silky Silver Metallic, and Cool White Pearl.

Interior & Features

The overall interior is a far departure from what we have seen on the previous Suzuki cars, let alone on the previous generation Grand Vitara. The interiors of the Suzuki Vitara have to be the most premium a Suzuki car has ever got – easily.

The three-spoke steering wheel with controls for audio, telephony and cruise is the same unit which we have seen on cars like the Ciaz and previous generation Swift. However, here it feels nice to hold with thicker grip. The instrument console packs in all the essential data with the presence of a black and white MID screen, however, it could have been designed with a bit more flair.

The waterfall-like cascading centre console looks nice with the large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which comes integrated with displays for reverse camera and navigation. The trapezoidal layout for the automatic climate control looks nice and premium. However, the most interesting bit of the centre console, in our opinion, is the nice round analogue clock stacked in between two round AC vents above the infotainment system. Other interesting features of this cabin includes a panoramic sunroof, push button start with keyless entry, tilt and telescopic steering, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, height adjustable driver seat, cruise control with speed limiter, electrically adjustable and foldable outside rear view mirrors, paddle shifters, making it the most feature-rich Suzuki car till date.

Talking about the space inside the cabin, the Vitara has enough room to seat five adults with ease, and the large side glasses make the cabin feel further airy. However, the lack of cup holders and the quality of switches which are shared with lower-priced Suzuki cars are a couple of concerns we wish company takes care of.

The Vitara has been pegged as a more premium variant of the previous generation Grand Vitara, which can be sensed in the way it has been designed. The overall design appears to be a restyled version of the Grand Vitara, with shorter dimensions and same blocky design theme. While it has got the required road presence, we would have liked the Vitara to look a bit more sporty with busier design cues and sharper elements here and there.

The Vitara has got a restyled nose with a sleek grille and two thick chrome slats, which adds some aggressiveness to the rather simple looking rectangular face. Tfour-sidedded headlamp assemblies pack in LED projectors – the design of the headlamps look very plain, but they look quite smart when the projectors light up. However, the most interesting part of the frontal face is the bumper design, which looks macho thanks to the large silver cladding at the centre. The round fog lamps are flanked with thin daytime running LED strips on their sides.

Moving towards the sides, the design and the silhouette of the Suzuki Vitara looks rather plain, but the overall size does give it a muscular stance of a traditional SUV. The thin side body cladding, large 17-inch machined alloy wheels, high ground clearance, and large side glass make the Vitara look large. The nice kink-like line running all the way front the lower portion of the front door to the rear tail lamps is a unique detailing effort.

The rear profile of the Suzuki Vitara is its most simple looking angle, with a rather oddly shaped set of tail lamps and trapezoidal housing for the license plate. Again, the silver cladding on the rear bumper is a nice touch, though it is not as large in size as that on the front.

Ride & Handling

All the Suzuki cars are known to have a perfect ride and handling balance, and the Vitara is no exception. Despite its bulky looking stance, the Vitara remains sure-footed around corners, thanks to a sturdy monocoque frame, large 17-inch wheels and slightly stiffer setup for the front Macpherson struts and rear torsion beam. The ride quality too feels pliant and thuds are not felt inside the cabin.

Engine & Fuel Consumption

Sitting at the heart of the Suzuki Vitara is a re-engineered 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol motor. While it is not as big as that of the Grand Vitara, but nevertheless, it pumps out enough punch to make it feel lively and powerful. The mill is good enough to belt out a maximum power output of 115 bhp and a maximum torque output of 156 Nm. The engine is coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission which gets the assistance of paddle shifters for a spirited driving experience. Thus making the Vitara the first ever production Suzuki car to get the paddle shifters.

Braking & Safety

Being a flagship comapct-SUV meant to fight the already established big-wigs means that the Suzuki Vitara does not need to compromise on the front of safety. Thankfully, the Vitara doesn’t disappoint and has got the required essentials like front, side and curtain airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners with force limiters, ISOFIX mounts, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, hill hold assist, brake assist, front and reverse parking sensors, reverse camera and engine immobilizer.

The Suzuki Vitara might not feel too special and unique in terms of design and visual appeal, but it has modernity written all over it. The cabin feels upmarket in terms of layout and features, but then, the iffy quality at places needs to be taken care of. The Vitara feels practical thanks to the abundance of space and the perfect ride and handling balance, which makes it feel a good choice for your daily driving duties.
