W800 Overview

The Kawasaki W800 is a powerful parallel twin two-wheeler which was first launched in 2011. The retro style model reminds us of the classic Kawasaki W series which was on sale in the market between 1967 and 1975. The W800 replaced the manufacturer’s W650 as the replaced model failed to meet the regulations.

The Kawasaki W800 is a nice retro-style motorcycle which is equipped with some old-school designing elements. It is equipped with a strong engine which offers good enough power. The motorcycle has a classical front fork that makes sure the longevity of the tubes.

Kawasaki W800 Design

The Kawasaki W800 comes with an exclusive classic retro design, which makes it unique and gives enough reasons to fight with the modern-day motorcycles. The manufacturer has recently got an update and thereafter, it was turned into a Scrambler. The motorcycle gets the iconic styling cues of the W series.

It gives a tribute to the Steve McQueen MX Vintage motorbike. As a part of the homage, the custom aluminium tank, side body covers and the front, as well as the rear fenders, are new. It also gets a huge fuel tank along with chrome finishes, just like the original Kawasaki W.

The owner doesn’t have to worry about the corrosion as the given aluminum rims are highly corrosion resistant. The Cosmer NC finish has been provided to the spokes and nipples that helps while wiping off the dirt.

It is an old-school motorcycle, which comes with a large round shaped headlamp. As a part of the multi-function LCD screen, a trip meter, clock, and odometer are offered.

W800 Ride & Handling

The Kawasaki W800 is a retro motorcycle which comes with a strong engine. Despite having a less power than the supersport bike, the riders will not have to worry before covering up a long distance in a short time span.

The two-wheeler comes with 14 litres of fuel capacity, which offers a very long riding range. Speaking of the suspensions, it comes with a telescopic fork at the front. Rubber gaitors are used in order to protect the fork tubes and also offers longevity. A twin shock setup is offered for the rear wheel. A buffed finish has been provided to the outer tubes that also contribute to the front end. The new suspension has a custom exhaust, which makes the sporty side stronger.

Kawasaki W800 Engine & Fuel Consumption

Under the hood of the Kawasaki W800, a Vertical Twin, 4-stroke, SOHC, air-cooled engine is offered to provide a good performance while gearing up the speed. The 773cc motor is capable of belting out a maximum of 47.5 hp at just 6,500 rpm along with a peak torque of 60 Nm, which comes at 2,500 rpm only.

The bike’s bevel-gear-driven camshaft is responsible for the iconic sound which is of the exhaust outlet. The whole combination results in a classical power and frugalness of the mill.

The two-wheeler comes with a 5-speed transmission that sends the power to the wheel. It does not require to be revved higher to squeeze the maximum power or torque. It means the rider won’t have to twist the throttle much to achieve the maximum power as well as the peak torque.

W800 Braking & Safety

The Kawasaki W800 comes with disc brake at the front while only a drum unit is offered at the rear. None of the brakes have ABS (anti-lock braking system). However, since the bike is a retro-styled model and the power is not that high like other middleweight options, it does not require ABS and the stock brakes that are provided are good enough to offer the required safety.

Coming to the safety features, the motorcycle comes with Pass switch and engine check warning for the convenience of the riders.

Kawasaki W800 Verdict

The Kawasaki W800 is only available in a standard trim in the Philippines and it gets a starting price tag of PHP 265,000. It is available in only two colour options - Grey and Black, resulting in limited choices for the customers. It gives a hard time to the Harley Davidson Street 750.

The major attraction lies in its sheer simplicity. That is how I would like to explain my present favorite possession, Kawasaki w800. The charismatic factor about this is nothing glorious or ravishing, but its retro charm. One can get lured by its minimalism along with mind grabbing elegance. I love its body panel design, for example. Then its fuel tank Read More

The Kawasaki W800 is a vintage-styled retro cruiser that targets the fans of old-school motorbikes. Myself being the same, I went on to book the W800, the month it marked its arrival in the Philippines. While I had no previous experience of riding this bike, it was solely based on the looks of it that I decided to go with Read More

Initially, I always thought that the specifications of the Kawasaki W800 did not make sense as the ride is equipped with an 800 cc engine that produces about 50 bhp power which would be hardly required by anyone. However, as my close friend recently bought a Kawasaki W800 for himself, I decided to take it out for a spin. That Read More

Kawasaki is known for supersport styled bikes and the W800 is a rather different product in its kitty. It’s a cruiser bike which sports a neo-retro styling but comes with updated fitments. The round headlights, spoke wheels, and chrome-treated parts highlight the vintage look. The 733cc engine is refined and smooth. I took my cousin’s W800 for a ride and Read More

I used to think that the Kawasaki W800 doesn’t make sense. Being an 800cc bike, it produces under 50 PS of power and no one would actually need it. But when I got to ride it from a friend of mine, I understood the true essence. It is nothing like an underpowered bike, or doesn’t even try to be a Read More

The Kawasaki W800 has got all the value, road presence and retro flavor which any other random middleweight retro roadster from Europe gets. Make no mistake of simply overlooking the W800, for the motorcycle is much more in actual than what it actually looks. The simplicity of the overall design of the Kawasaki W800, thanks to the retro design and Read More

I have a fascination with owning motorcycles from multiple segments. As of now, I own a half-litre street fighter, a 600cc sports bike and my prized Kawasaki W800. In fact, the W800 is probably the best motorcycle I own due to its appeal. A retro bike always has a special charm. The way it is built with chrome is just Read More

I am fond of those 60s bike. Remember the heroes of 60s? Riding a bike wearing pencil cut worn out jeans and a leather jacket and passing by swiftly. That always allures me and I have always dreamt of possessing such a bike and go for long distance drives. That became possible in this jet age finally with the launching Read More
