It has been proven time and again that underestimating the Chinese often leads to a regrettable outcome. The Zongshen Ryuka Fly 150 or as it is known and sold in the Philippines – the MotorStar Moto R155 – is yet another example of what we are talking about here. The supermoto style bike is certainly not what you’d expect from a Chinese manufacturer. At least at first glance. The bike comes with all the trappings you’d expect from a bike like this. Zongshen, being the largest motorcycle manufacturer in China, has put a lot of effort into developing it. The Moto R155 was designed in Italy and uses premium components. The bike has been in the market for quite some time and slowly gained popularity among off-road riders on a budget. That should come as no surprise as the bike costs a paltry Php 58000 which compared to its closest rivals, the Yamaha XTZ 125 and the Kawasaki KLX 150 cost nearly twice as much and cannot match the MotorStar on equipment. But is this advantage going to be enough or is the MotorStar going to suffer due to its Chinese origin? Let’s find out.
Because of the demands of the sport, all super moto bikes tend to look alike. But there is a distinct hint of a KTM inspired design that can be seen peeking through the Moto R155’s design. The design takes no prisoners with its aggressive surfaces and graphics. The high front fender hovering over the road-focused tires, frame the bike perfectly. The seat is as thin as you’d expect and the plastic paneling hides the high riding sloped exhaust. The long slim seat ends with a rack that can be used to mount storage. The bike does appear quite long with a length of 2112 mm, width of 820 mm and height of 1130 mm. There is an impressive 260 mm of ground clearance. Fat front USD forks and fat 100/80 tires on the front 17” spoked wheel and 130/90 tire on the rear 15” spoked wheel give it some real eye candy. There are two color schemes on offer – red with black and blue with white. Instrumentation uses a twin pod dial setup that hides behind the barely usable lip of a windscreen. There is no denying that the MotorStar Moto R155 looks rather impressive. Build quality is also decent for a Chinese bike. But as always, there is always the chance that you end up with a lemon of a bike that sheds its parts on the highway.
The suspension setup on the MotorStar Moto R155 is rather impressive with a Showa sourced upside down front fork and a Showa sourced rear monoshock. The frame uses a variable section aluminum construction that gives it 50:50 weight distribution and neutral handling. The oversized swing arm and the fat tires give it good traction. The rear suspension can use a bit of stiffening for even better performance.
Powering the MotorStar Moto R155 is a water-cooled and carbureted 150cc single cylinder unit mated to a 5-speed transmission. The engine produces 8.5 kW at 8500 rpm and 9.2 Nm of torque at 7500 rpm. The engine is not a high revving stonking piece of machinery but instead, take a more sedate approach to power delivery. It can even be called refined with its vibration-free operation. This also makes it easy to use for newbies. Fuel economy is also good at nearly 50 kmpl. The fuel tank is still not the biggest at 6.5L. Overall a good engine for everyday use that can also be used for a spot of off-roading or trail biking. For more spirited riding, riders are advised to thrash around with the engine as this is where it starts performing like a supermoto.
Braking on the MotorStar Moto R155 is well sorted thanks to large disc brakes both front and rear.
As unlikely as it may seem, we have something good on our hands here with the MotorStar Moto R155. And certainly, the bike has gained quite a bit of popularity with a budget off-roading enthusiasts. While build quality and part availability can still be improved, the bike itself is a good choice for everyday use and the occasional jaunt off in the wilderness.
The Motorstar Moto R155 has a supermoto styling. From the looks, it will seem that the bike is ready to hit the dirt trails. Well, it does, but don’t expect an all-out dirt bike performance from the Moto R155. The seat is side and comfortable. There’s not much space for the pillion rider. Well, this bike isn’t meant to carry
I was looking for a bike that would suit a daily commuter's purpose and stand out in the crowd. After searching everywhere, I finally came across the Motorstar Moto R155 and was swept off my feet, realizing I did not know about this bike earlier. Hence I bought it almost immediately, and that was probably the best decision I ever
The Motorstar Moto R155, with its off-road styling, looks attractive. It has an upright sitting position, wide handlebars, and offers a commanding view of the road. But it’s not a serious off-roader, despite the high mudguard. The engine is small and is only suitable for commuting within the city. It’s at best an alternative commuter bike for those looking for
I have been using this bike for almost a year now and it has actually proved to me that underestimating the Chinese often leads to disastrous results. A superbike-style motorcycle is not what people expect of a Chinese manufacturer but this bike is actually the ultimate off-roader. Right at the first glance, this bike attracted me with its sharp looks.
I am riding this bike for over a year and I will recommend the bike to any off-road enthusiast looking for a lightweight, fun-to-ride, and safe bike that delivers the perfect blend of performance as well as comfort. I think it is a really capable all-terrain bike that is good for city commuting as well. The Motorstar Moto R155 looks
So many reasons are responsible for which this bike has become my all-time favorite amidst all the bikes I have ridden so far. The bike has a sturdy body. When it comes to its performance the bike just rocks. The style of the bike is sharp and that is another notable thing I boast of while riding this. The super
I always dreamed of buying a bike which would turn heads wherever I would go. My dream turned into reality when I was given a motostar discount voucher by my company as an incentive for my performance. I chose the blue variant of MotoStar Moto R155 as soon as I entered the store. This bike makes me feel as if
