Suzuki Hayabusa

The Suzuki Hayabusa is a combination of a futuristic design and contemporary engineering which makes it stand apart in the segment. Hayabusa has a totally different design language which is specifically designed for linear speed gain and acceleration. At the front, an oversized mudguard goes upwards tending towards the headlight which features a projector-type high beam light that works smartly at night. The side indicators are scooped in the front fairing while the rounded rear view mirrors contribute to improving the overall aerodynamics in an effective manner.

The updated version has a restyled fuel tank that is now positioned lower than the previous model while the visor is now 15mm higher, resulting in improved wind protection. Considering the instrument panel, the four-pod analog units for speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, and temperature are still intact while the LCD screen display at the center handle the odo, twin trip readings and indicate the drive mode. The tank area gives sufficient space for the rider’s thighs and the saddle is padded decently for a comfortable seating.

The rear features unique chrome-tipped twin silencers and the angular tail fairing section leads to an easily distinguishable LED double lens taillight accompanied with oval side indicators.

The engine is updated on a number of aspects and now the four-cylinder, short-stroke, DOHC unit now delivers a maximum power of 197 hp which is 25 hp more than its previous model. The bore dimensions are kept intact while the stroke is improved by 2mm and now reads 65mm that now boost the displacement to 1340cc. But, there is no change in the peak torque of the bike and it still delivers 154 Nm at 6200 rpm. A new digital fuel injection system is equipped with the updated Hayabusa that plays an important role in improving the overall efficiency of the engine. The 6-speed transmission of the bike is smooth, quick and precise and with improved oil spray for its top three gears, the overall sound level at high speeds is reduced to a great extent. If we talk about the nimbleness of the bike, there is no alternative. One can hit 100 kmph mark from naught in just 3.5 seconds and 220 kmph mark in 10 seconds. As the bike is designed for immense thrill and power, expecting decent fuel efficiency will not be a wise thought, still one can expect a mileage ranging between 10-12 kmpl.

To control a bike like Hayabusa, braking should be very strong and Suzuki has made no mistake. The 2017 Suzuki Hayabusa comes with a single piston 310mm disc brake at the front with radial mounted calipers while the rear features a 260mm single piston, single disc. At high speeds, the braking requires some effort but, with powerful biting and strong braking efficiency, the bike comes to a halt in no time.

The saddle height is lowered over the outgoing model and now, the rider has a more track like seating, clearly not for usual city traffic. Hayabusa comes with a long 1480mm wheelbase, which is felt each time a rider turns the bike at low speeds. The new Hayabusa comes with adjustable upside-down forks and adjustable single rear shock which works in unison with the swingarm in an effective manner. Though not everyone will be able to chuck this bike into the corner with ease, the ones with expertise will enjoy cruising and taking on sharp curves. Make no mistake, this bike is not for everyone and it requires a lot of command and respect to enjoy the ride to the fullest.
