Suzuki Skydrive Crossover

The Suzuki Skydrive Crossover is based on the Skydrive Sport, which itself is one sporty scooter to look at. There are noteworthy design alterations carried out for the Suzuki Skydrive Crossover over the Skydrive Sport, which do make it look outright sporty and youthful in character.

At the front, the Suzuki Skydrive Crossover has a very boyish-looking design, with the rakish front apron getting a compact look and housing the angular looking full LED headlamp at its bottom. The side portions of the front apron flow towards the floorboard at the bottom in a zig-zag manner and come plastered with sporty decals on them. The front apron ends up quite lower than the handlebar and doesn’t get any proper windshield above it, thus leaving the instrument console exposed (more on that later).

The side profile of the Suzuki Skydrive Crossover is more or less the same as that of the Skydrive Sport, with the scooter having a lean and sharp design for the side body panels behind the floorboard. Just like the side portions of the front apron, the rear side body panels too have a number of razor-sharp small creases, which do give them a sense of continuity and flow to the design.

The Suzuki Skydrive Crossover has a wide looking rear profile which somehow goes well with the slim and lean side body panels. The tail lamp cluster, which also accommodates clear lens turn indicators within it apart from the main tail lamp, looks fresh and broad. 

The Suzuki Skydrive Crossover shares its fully digital instrument console with the more premium 125cc maxi-scooter, the Burgman Street. However, here it gets an orange backlit theme and has digital readouts for speedometer, fuel gauge, odometer, trip meter, clock, and service indicator. A range of other tell-tale lamps flank either side of this digital screen. The lack of a proper windscreen ahead of the instrument console gives a very open and wide view of the road ahead, with the nicely positioned handlebar and broad grips aiding in its ergonomics.

The overall sporty character of the Suzuki Skydrive Crossover is not just confined to its engine and overall visual appeal but is transferred to its mechanical underpinnings as well. The scooter gets an under-bone frame as well as a stiff setup for its suspension combination of hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and single-sided coil spring with swingarm at the rear. The ride quality is not too soft, but the well-padded seat does make the short city commuted quite fun.

The Suzuki Skydrive Crossover shares its four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected, 113cc engine with the Skydrive Sport without any significant change to its state of tune. That means, here on the Suzuki Skydrive Crossover too, the engine is coupled to a V-belt automatic gearbox and makes 9.5 PS of maximum power and 8.7 Nm of maximum torque. These output figures, after factoring in the light kerb weight of just 94 kgs, make the Suzuki Skydrive Crossover a very energetic scooter to ride, thus matching its sporty styling.

In the name of safety, the Suzuki Skydrive Crossover misses out on electronic riding aids or even a basic combi-braking system, but it gets a key shutter mechanism for its ignition key hole.

The Suzuki Skydrive Crossover has a sporty demeanor in all of its aspects – be its styling, its performance or its ride and handling balance. It is one perfect premium entry-level scooter for those who seek a youthful character from their scooter but do not want to stretch their budget too much for a bigger 125cc scooter.
