UM Powermax Design
The UM Powermax is a decent looking scooter, which might not look too extravagant and sporty for its class, but it also doesn’t look boring at all. There are some design elements, which are bound to catch your attention and give the Powermax a unique appeal.
The front apron of the UM Powermax looks fairly large for a 125cc scooter and comes adorned with a sharp-looking headlamp in the lower middle part of it. The lower side edges of the front apron come integrated with clear lens triangular turn indicators, which look sharp. The entire front apron has a curved design from the front, which adds some visual bulk to the look of the scooter.
The UM Powermax has a decent look when viewed from the sides. The side extensions of the front apron flow behind its rear part, which adjoin with the back panel and create small storage cavities to hold small things behind the apron. The floorboard here is flat and big enough to accommodate the feet and knees of even taller riders.
Moving towards the rear, the UM Powermax gets broad but sleek looking side body panels below the long and well-crafted seat. The large seat and wide-body panels make the Powermax look fairly large for a 125cc scooter. At the back, the scooter has a rakish design on which the tail lamp cluster is placed. This tail lamp cluster also integrates clear lens turn indicators on the sides of the tail lamp, which flow towards the sides in a pointier fashion.
Just behind the seat, the scooter gets a large alloy grab rail, the rear portion of which flows above the tail lamp cluster. The overall design for the five-spoke alloy wheels and exhaust pipe looks a tad too simple, with all of them finished in a theme of black. The instrument console of the UM Powermax too is a fairly simple affair, with the scooter having an all analogue panel comprising of a speedometer, fuel gauge and odometer.
While the overall design of the UM Powermax is quite good, what leaves scope for improvement are the fit and finish levels.
Powermax Ride & Handling
The UM Powermax gets a humble mechanical setup under the skin, with the scooter having a conventional suspension setup of hydraulic telescopic forks at the front and a unit hydraulic coil spring at the back. The overall ride and handling balance are pretty decent, and despite the large visual bulk of the scooter, it is very easy and light-weighted to handle. The scooter rides on a unique combination of 90/90-12 front tyre and a 3.50-10 rear tyre, with a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear for halting duties.
UM Powermax Engine & Fuel Consumption
The UM Powermax has got a four-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, 124.6cc engine, which produces a maximum power output of 7 bhp and a peak torque output of 8 Nm. These performance numbers seem uninspiring for a 125cc scooter, and belong to a 110c scooter. The performance feels sluggish, as the big 125cc engine doesn’t complement well with the heavy kerb weight and size of the scooter. The top speed of the UM Powermax is capped at 80 kmph, which is also not so impressive.
Powermax Braking & Safety
The UM Powermax is positioned in a budget-oriented segment, in which prominent safety features are generally skipped out. The same has happened with the UM Powermax, as apart from a lockable under seat storage compartment, it doesn’t get much to offer.
UM Powermax Verdict
While the overall package of the UM Powermax is fairly decent and has nothing much new or outstanding to offer, what makes it worth noticing is its affordable pricing, which is comparable to a smaller 110cc scooter.
