Luxe 7-seater: Exploring the fuel-efficient and feature-packed 2022 Audi Q7

Just recently, Audi Philippines launched the new 2022 Audi Q7 seven-seat luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV), which comes with a mild hybrid powertrain that cuts down on fuel consumption and guarantees cleaner emissions.

The 2022 Audi Q7’s mild hybrid system features a belt alternator starter (BAS), which powers the vehicle’s 48-volt primary electrical system. The system can collect energy during braking, convert it to electricity, and then store it in a compact lithium-ion battery. This cycle takes place when the Q7 goes at speeds between 55 and 160kph.

When the mild hybrid system shuts the engine off during certain situations, such as when the vehicle is coasting, the energy captured from the cycle can be used to power the vehicle. This means that throughout this phase, no fuel is consumed and no emissions are produced. When more power is needed or the accelerator is pressed, the BAS will automatically restart the engine. The engine start-stop function is activated at speeds as low as 22 kph, making it suitable for city traffic where fuel consumption grows over time.

The mild hybrid BAS system works in tandem with a 3.0-liter TDI V6 turbocharged diesel engine that churns out 286hp and 600Nm of torque. The engine is already fuel-efficient due to its high torque rating and the Q7’s eight-speed Tiptronic transmission that provides a wide range of gears. The quattro permanent all-wheel drive system receives the engine’s power output.

Aside from fuel efficiency, the Q7 also excels in safety, receiving a five-star rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP). Among the features that helped the model earn the top Euro NCAP rating are the full-size airbags in front, airbags on the outboard sides of the front and rear passengers, Isofix child seat mountings, Parking Aid Plus with 360 display, tire pressure monitoring, advanced traction and stability control systems, and various driver-assist technologies.

The 2022 Audi Q7 is defined by fresh styling that adheres to the brand’s current SUV design language. Its massive Singleframe grille with six vertical slats gives it a more muscular appearance, while the two-part side air inlets and sill area get a more expressive line that emphasizes the vehicle’s ground clearance and off-road capabilities. The new light signature of the headlamp’s HD Matrix LED technology, as well as the reworked rear’s chrome strip and flat taillights with redesigned graphics, accentuate the SUV’s width. Another notable exterior design upgrade is the new set of 20-inch cast aluminum wheels.

On the inside, the Q7 features a luxurious lounge that blends premium and practice amenities that are essential for daily driving. The cockpit architecture seamlessly combines a new, digital operating system, which is accentuated by two large touchscreens with haptic and acoustic feedback for touch controls. When the top display is turned off, it merges in with the big black decorative surfaces that surround it.

Among the premium cabin features are the Audi virtual cockpit plus that includes a high-resolution color information display, MMI navigation plus with MMI touch response, three-spoke leather-covered multifunction plus steering wheel with paddle shifters, a Bang & Olufsen premium sound system, an ambient LED lighting package, four-zone automatic air-conditioning, and Audi Music Interface.

All three rows of seats can be slid forward or backward separately and the seatbacks can reclined. Meanwhile, the cargo compartment has a capacity of up to 2,050 liters. The Q7 also comes standard with an electronically powered tailgate and power-latching, soft-closing doors.
