2018 BMW i8 Roadster teaser released
MANILA: The next member to join the much-acclaimed ‘i’ family of the German automaker is the open-top version of the plug-in hybrid, the BMW i8. First revealed as a concept in 2012, the BMW i8 Roadster is all set to make its global debut. Just ahead of its official showcase, the manufacturer has released the teaser image of the next plug-in hybrid.
Though the BMW i8 Roadster teaser image is released in heavy camouflage, the Roadster’s fabric soft-top and a new pair of buttresses are quite evident. Even the spied images of the i8 Roadster highlighted the fabric soft-top and with the teaser image surfacing the internet, the production model is likely to feature a similar rooftop.
Also evident from the teaser image is the updated front and the rear profile, which looks sharper and more aggressive than the standard BMW i8. The headlights and front bumper are tweaked to make the overall profile a bit sportier while the rear has received an updated pair of taillights.
Under the hood, the BMW i8 Roadster will be powered by a 1.5-litre TwinPower Turbo Hybrid engine while there are also rumors of a power boost accompanying the engine. If this holds true then the company might have to upgrade the engine and install a bigger battery pack to give an improved range.
The BMW i8 Roadster is expected to make its debut at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show and the production is likely to commence in Q1 of 2018.
