PHRX, AAP ready for upcoming Kagitingan Rally of Capas

MANILA: The Philippine Rallycross Series (PHRX) and the Automobile Association of the Philippines (AAP) expressed their readiness in the upcoming Kagitingan Rally of Capas.

Set on April 27, the event — which will kick off at the Capas Municipal Hall in Tarlac — shall have a total distance of 130 kilometers (transport stages included) with 11 special stages covering a total distance of 50 kilometers.

Made in collaboration with the local government of Capas, the Kagitingan Rally of Capas promises a thrilling dirt rally experience with special stages set along the municipality's inner dirt roads.

Marking the lead-up to the aforementioned motorsport event, a ceremonial flag-off event was conducted over the weekend at Estancia Mall in Capitol Commons, Pasig City. The ceremony was presided by AAP President Augustus Ferreria, Motorsport Committee Chairman Armando Eduque, alongside PHRX Directors Olson Camacho and Ronaldo Trinidad.

Camacho told Zigwheels Philippines that at least 15 will join the much-awaited event, which signals the start of the Philippine National Rally Championship 2024.

The event — which also became the area for the scrutineering process for all competing rally cars — promoted rally motorsport to the public by allowing mallgoers to see the vehicles that will be used in the competition.

 

Earlier, organizers of the event had the Jun Espino Memorial Rallycross. Held last April 6 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Open Grounds, the event coincided with the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) 2024.

Camacho said that the event paid tribute to the late Jun Espino, who is one of the major movers in reinvigorating the discipline locally. A legendary rally navigator during the 1970s- 1980s, Espino excelled in local and international competitions.

For his part, AAP Motorsport Manager Rikki Dy-Liacco expressed excitement on the revival of rallycross racing at the familiar CCP Open Grounds.

The Jun Espino Memorial Rallycross, doubling as the fourth round of the PHRX 2024 season, drew 65 entries across various race classes, with a significant turnout of race fans.

The Kagitingan Rally of Capas is made possible by Capas LGU, Isuzu Philippines Corporation, Autoplus Sports, Ravenol Motor Oils, Cleanfuel, Aguila Auto Glass, Method Race Wheels, AC Delco, CDS Offroad Playground, and Arden Botanical Estate.
