A closer look at the TGR PH Cup GR Supra safety car, Rush GR-S medical car

For 2025 and its past iterations, the biggest star of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines Cup (TGR PH Cup) is the Toyota Vios one-make race (OMR) car. It has been around since 2014 in various versions, all of which are used to compete in the said event’s circuit championship, autocross challenge, and endurance races. 

At the penultimate round of the 2025 TGR PH Cup, however, two very interesting rides likewise shared the limelight with the Vios OMR: the Toyota GR Supra safety car and the Toyota Rush GR-S medical car. 

So, what are these two vehicles for, and what are they like up close? 

Toyota GR Supra safety car

At the final round of the 2025 TGR PH Cup, a modified example of the Toyota GR Supra stepped in as the circuit and endurance race event’s safety car. So on multiple occasions, the two-door sports car joined the Vios OMR on the corners and straights of Clark International Speedway. 

It was, however, wasn’t there to race. Instead, as a safety car, it rolled out on the track to control the speed of the participating race cars. The aforementioned is done to ensure the safety of track marshals, race officials, and emergency responders who need to go onto the track for a variety of reasons. 

While travel speed when a safety car is fielded is reduced, it is by no means a leisurely pace. For the Toyota GR Supra, however, its 3.0-liter inline-6 is significantly more potent than the 1.5-liter inline-4 of the light-footed Vios OMR. 

The particular GR Supra safety car fielded at the event was also quite a looker. Because apart from its original athletic shape, it was provided with a tasteful-looking livery featuring the Toyota Gazoo Racing logo combined with black, red, white, and grey sections. 

The GR Supra safety car also rode on a set of Volk Racing wheels, while sporting a huge rear wing. And of course, it received auxiliary safety lighting in the form of a compact, roof-mounted light array. 

In the Philippine market, the Toyota GR Supra currently starts at P5.612 million for both the automatic and manual transmission versions.

Toyota Rush GR-S medical car

Also making an appearance at the final round of the 2025 TGR PH Cup is the Toyota Rush GR-S. Specifically, it functioned as a medical car, which, as the name implies, provides mobility to emergency medical providers. Racing, after all, is a very physical sport, and some mishaps will require rapid response. 

Like the Toyota GR Supra safety car, the Rush GR-S medical car wore the signature colors of the car brand’s performance arm. Its array of modifications, though, was less extensive, sporting only the addition of roof-mounted emergency lights. 

Regardless, the Rush, as a three-row vehicle, has ample space to transport the medical staff, their equipment, and a patient around the grounds of CIS. It also showed ample speed and agility when it took on the track a couple of times during the event. 

In the Philippine market, the Toyota Rush GR-S retails at P1.208 million.

The future of TGR Cup PH

As mentioned above, the big star of the TGR Cup PH for years now has been the Toyota Vios OMR. Future iterations of the grassroots motorsport event, however, will see the rise of next-generation Tamaraw one-make race competitions.

The aforementioned was announced by Toyota Motor Philippines Assistant Vice President for Marketing Services, Andrew Ryan Ty, during the last race of the 2025 season. 

Specifically, a Toyota Tamaraw OMR vehicle is currently in the works, and at least 30 participants will make up an entirely new racing class dedicated to the turbodiesel model. 

To highlight the said development, the 2025 TGR Cup PH saw, for the first time, a total of five Toyota Tamaraw race-spec vehicles battle it out on the race via a demonstration run. A drag-spec unit also ran against a number of Toyota models, including a GR 86. 

With all that said, race fans will have plenty to look forward to from the upcoming TGR Cup PH seasons that are yet to come. We are particularly excited to see a full-blown circuit race consisting of Tamaraw units, considering that the demo races have shown that the utility vehicle is actually quick and nimble.
