Next-gen Tamaraw to be part of Toyota GR PH Cup's next seasons

MANILA: The next-generation Tamaraw will be part of the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Philippine Cup's upcoming seasons. 

The announcement was made by Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) Assistant Vice President for Marketing Services Andrew Ryan Ty at the season ender of its motorsport event for 2025. 

According to him, the purpose-built model will be part of an entirely separate class made up of at least 30 participants. 

Ty told Zigwheels Philippines that the package for Toyota Tamaraw one-make race (OMR) car will be made up of: 

• Rollcage
• Buckset seats
• Kill switch
• Race-prepped braking system
• New tires and wheels
• Safety harnesess
• Upgraded leaf springs and coil springs 

The aforementioned setup will be slapped on a Toyota Tamaraw long wheelbase diesel trim (which is available in five-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox) currently priced at P937,000-P1.54 million.

The drivetrain will be kept stock, Ty said.

To note, the said variant's mill has a peak churn of:

• Maximum output: 148 horsepower
• Peak torque: 343 Newton-meters 

Meanwhile, TMP Marketing Services Department-GR Section Supervisor JC Gaon shared that the team is currently working on the package for the competition-ready Toyota Tamaraw next year.

Right now, the company is studying the possible pricing of the Toyota Tamaraw OMR unit, which is expected to be around P1.5 million — similar to the pricing of the Vios Cup Car back in 2019.

To note, the last leg of the TGR Philippine Cup 2025 saw five Tamaraws at the grid for exhibition races (circuit and drag).
