730 HP Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is the brand's most powerful tourer yet

MANILA: The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is the most expressive, elaborate, intelligent, and distinctive expression of the marque's grand tourer and possesses the most powerful Mercedes-AMG with a V8 series engine.

The new sports car epitomizes the rich legacy of the brand in motorsport. This includes its many years of professional experience in the development of complete and impressive vehicles.

For Mercedes-AMG, the Black Series has been unrivaled in its imaginative design, unwavering sportiness, and the most successful transition of technology from motorsport to series production since its inception in 2006.

Black series models are exclusive auto archetypes. They were not designed to capture dust in collector garages, yet they are meant for high-speed racetrack use, despite obtaining approval for road use.

The engine specialists in Affalterbach have enhanced and further improved the tried-and-tested 4.0-liter biturbo engine to give the flagship model of the AMG GT family more power, throttle response, and torque. This, despite being already known for its torque progression, power delivery, and outstanding driveability.

The new GT Black Series engine has been inspired by the AMG 4.0-liter bi-turbo engine with dry- sump lubrication. Yet, it has been provided with a new internal code M178 LS2 thanks to various changes. It attains 730 HP of power output and a maximum torque of 800 Nm.

The twin-scroll exhaust turbochargers are placed in anti-friction bearings, similar to the top-of-the-range four-door AMG GT Coupé, which further maximizes their driving dynamics. But, in the Black Series, the turbochargers have been provided with a massive compressor wheel, which means that they can produce a total of 1100 kg of air per hour.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a seven-speed AMG Speedshift DCT 7 G dual-clutch transmission. This is positioned on the rear axle in a transaxle configuration for optimum weight distribution, similar to all AMG GT models. It was customized for use in the AMG GT Black Series and adjusted to a higher torque of 800 Nm.

Response time and shift performance has been extended to make it a more consummate performer on the track despite also being a road-legal car.

The driver can also modify the adaptive damping characteristics by pressing the button on the AMG drive unit or through the use of the AMG dynamic select drive modes. There are three modes available, namely, "Comfort," "Sport" and "Sport Plus." "Comfort" and "Sport" are good options for public roads.

On cordoned-off racetracks which allow the ESP OFF mode, the AMG traction control allows the driver to obtain individual support without ESP brake interference. The level of assistance may be adjusted, giving the appropriate level of support for every track situation and each driver.

The AMG performance steering wheel has a flat bottom portion, trimmed in DINAMICA microfiber, comes with aluminium steering wheel shift paddles and shows only the lettering of the Black Series and the AMG emblem.

The AMG interior night package is also available as standard. In this package, the seat insert in the optional AMG performance seats, steering wheel spokes, and shift paddles are polished in high-gloss black. The door sill panels are in black brushed stainless steel, which further highlights the ruggedness of the vehicle.

An AMG track package can be availed as an option in numerous markets, excluding China, Canada, and the USA. It can only be combined with the AMG carbon-fiber bucket seats. It consists of a roll-over protection system, a two-kilogram fire extinguisher, and four-point seatbelts for the front passenger and driver (exceptionally configured for racetrack use).
