9th PH Electric Vehicle Summit begins today

MANILA: The Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP), in collaboration with the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and Department of Energy (DOE), is hosting the 9^th Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) today and tomorrow, September 23 and 24.

With the theme “Accelerating the Switch to Electro-Mobility in the Philippines,” the online event aims to fast-track electric vehicle (EV) adoption in the local transport sector, in accordance with the national government’s goal to achieve a low-carbon economy in the middle term.

In a statement, EVAP President Edmund Araga said, “We need to step up our efforts to achieve our goals for rapid EV deployment and to do this, government and private sectors need to collectively reaffirm their commitment to do so.”

One of the highlights of this year’s PEVS is the symbolic signing of a stakeholder Memorandum of Understanding aimed at accelerating the switch to electro-mobility by 2025.

The first day of the virtual conference focuses on dialogues about EV technologies and solutions. Keynote message by leaders from the public and private sectors, including House Committee on Energy Chairman Juan Miguel Macapagal-Arroyo, DOE Secretary Alfonso Cusi, and Senate Committee on Energy Chairman Sherwin Gatchalian, will be presented in the first day of the event. An official from the UK government, which will host this year’s COP 26, will also engage in the discussions.

On the second day, PEVS will tackle the EV value chain development and market opportunities. There will be session about production of EVs and batteries, establishment of charging network and infrastructure across the country, and feasible business models for EV adoption.

The two-day event will also present updates on several developments for EV adoption advocacy, including the Senate and House of Representative’s respective versions of the Electric Vehicle and Charging Stations Act, the DOE’s charging infrastructure guidelines and policy, and the Land Transportation Office’s administrative order on the classification, registration, and operations of different types of EV.

PEVS will also provide details of the EV Industry Roadmap (2016-2024) set by the Department of Trade and Industry-Board of Investments (DTI-BOI). It also aims to serve as a platform for the various sectors to express their views on the EV adoption in the country.

The 9th PEVS is also made possible by Nissan Philippines in collaboration with Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, Power Equipment and Supply, Inc. (PESIN), Integrated Micro-Electronics, Inc. (MI), and Delta Electronics International (Singapore) Pte Ltd.
