Artes says EDSA Busway-authorized vehicles need to be extra careful too

MANILA: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reminded authorized users of the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) Busway to be extra careful when entering the lane.

In a Facebook post, MMDA Chairman Romando Artes advised, “Dapat ay tumingin muna at siguraduhin na walang paparating na bus bago pumasok ng bus carousel lane para sa kaligtasan mo at ng iba pang sasakyan dumaraan din dito (You should look around first and make sure there is no bus approaching before entering the bus carousel lane for your safety and that of the other vehicles passing through it).”

The warning was issued after a bus crashed into the railing of the MRT-3 Santolan station last week after allegedly avoiding a police car that was about to enter the lane. Five passengers were hurt due to the incident.

“Huwag nating abusuhin ang pagpasok dito dahil walang patid ang ating pagpapatupad ng EDSA bus lane policy (Let us not abuse the use of the busway as we relentlessly implement the EDSA bus lane policy),” Artes added.

He also reiterated that the EDSA Busway is exclusive to the passenger buses operating along the route, ambulances, fire trucks, vehicles owned by the Philippine National Police, and service vehicles for the EDSA Busway Project.
