AVID registers 26% sales growth in first 9 months of year

MANILA: The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors, Inc. (AVID) has achieved a 26% increase in year-to-date (YTD) sales for the first nine months of 2021 — recording a total of 43,957 units sold versus the 34,980 units sold in the same period last year. In September alone, AVID recorded a 26% growth in sales versus last month.

The commercial vehicle (CV) segment led the sales growth with a huge 311% YTD surge. Hyundai emerged as the top-selling brand, capturing 98% of total AVID CV sales. It sold a total of 906 units, a considerable improvement from the 223 units sold in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment held a 72% share of AVID sales for the first nine months of the year. LCV sales have increased by 37% year-to-date, from 23,007 units sold in 2020 to 31,444 units sold in the same period this year. Ford has once again led the segment with 13,258 units sold. It was followed by Suzuki with 8,677 units and Geely with 3,818 units.

Passenger car (PC) sales slightly dipped by 1% from 11,750 units in 2020 to 11,596 this year. The PC segment was the most affected by the recent lockdown, as shown by its 28% year-on-year (YoY) drop. Despite this, the segment rebounded from last month’s drought, growing by 36%. Suzuki was the best-selling PC brand for the first nine months of 2021, with 5,768 units sold. It was followed by Hyundai with 3,829 units.

In a statement, AVID President Ma. Fe Perez-Agudo said, “We have weathered the volatile market conditions of the third quarter. With improving health conditions and a more stable outlook, AVID is optimistic and driven to wind up this last quarter on a strong note.”
