BYD Cars PH continues support for triathlon team ahead of Ironman 70.3 

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines, the Ayala-led passenger car division of the Chinese carmaker, continues to support the training and campaign of its triathlon team ahead of the BYD Ironman 70.3 in Davao. 

Of note, BYD Cars Philippines partnered with Sunrise Events for the upcoming endurance competition. The company staged a ceremonial signing event in Manila Bay sometime in February. 

There, the electric car manufacturing company’s Philippine arm presented its competing teams, which consist of the following:

BYD Celebrity Triathlon Team 

The BYD Celebrity Triathlon Team is made up of popular personalities, starting with Alden Richards. The Laguna native will take on the bike leg, marking his first time participating in a triathlon event of this scale. 

Per BYD Cars Philippines, this event will be a milestone that Richards has embraced as part of his journey into endurance sports. 

The company added that, beyond physical preparation, Richards sees a clear connection between endurance sport and innovation. 

“Very much parallel. Just as an Ironman athlete trains, BYD engineers its technology for industry-leading range and safety,” Richards was quoted as saying. 

“The goal here is really to inspire a global movement where high performance and technology coexist,” he added. 

Similarly, vlogger Will Dasovich displayed equal focus for endurance and efficiency, drawing a connection between energy management in sport and sustainable innovation. 

“In Ironman, energy management is everything. You have to be efficient and not just fast,” he noted. 

“Whether it’s a car reaching a 2,000 km (kilometer) range or an athlete finishing a

12-hour race, both are dedicated to the business of ‘long-range’ performance,” he commented. 

Celebrity entrepreneur Nico Bolzico shares the same mindset. He emphasizes that the run is as much about the environment as it is about the athlete. 

“Training in the elements makes climate change a personal reality. This collaboration proves we can host world-class events while protecting the planet, leaving a legacy far beyond the finish line,” he noted. 

BYD Triathlon Team 

Complementing the celebrity endurance team is the BYD Triathlon Team, comprised of professionals such as Olympian Jasmine Alkhaldi. 

The decorated swimmer is a member of the first batch of the Atletang Ayala program under Ayala Foundation. Alkhadi reflects the Ayala Group’s long-standing commitment to supporting Filipino athletes. 

Her training continues across several environments, including facilities such as the Ayala Vermos Sports Hub. 

“It’s inspiring to be supported by a brand that is shaping the future. As athletes, we always think about progression — how to be better, faster, stronger,” she stated. 

Next on the roster is runner Jennifer Uy, who sees the discipline of endurance sport as something that closely mirrors BYD’s philosophy of efficiency and innovation. 

“BYD fits well into my lifestyle because it is all about innovation, power efficiency, and long-lasting battery life,” Uy explained. 

“As athletes, we have to manage our heart rate and pacing to sustain long distances,” she added. 

Finally, cyclist Jens Jacobsen added that sustainability is no longer a distant concept but an everyday choice. 

“Once you go electric, there is no going back,” he said. 

“I like that BYD promotes innovation and sustainability. It reduces pollution, which I notice when riding my bike — air quality matters a lot. Driving electric aligns with my personal values and contributes to a cleaner environment,” he concluded. 

Support beyond the finish line 

The collaboration between BYD Cars Philippines and Sunrise Events for the BYD Ironman 70.3 Davao reflects a broader shift in how major sporting events integrate sustainability. 

By incorporating zero-emission mobility solutions into race operations, the partnership supports efforts to reduce the event’s environmental footprint while promoting innovation within the triathlon community. 

“Ironman 70.3 is no small challenge. It demands precisely controlled output across 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling, and 21.1 km of running. Every part of that journey tests your endurance, your focus, and your ability to keep pushing forward,” ACMobility Chief Marketing Officer Dino Obias explained. 

“That spirit of endurance and constant forward motion is something we strongly connect with at ACMobility, together with our partners at BYD,” he continued. 

Fans can catch the action at the BYD Ironman 70.3 Davao Tech Tour from March 19 to 22, 2026, at the Ironman Expo Tent, Bago Aplaya Esplanade Parking, leading up to the race on March 22, where athletes from the BYD Triathlon Teams will take on the iconic swim-bike-run course.
