BYD climbs up in latest ‘Fortune Global 500’ list

MANILA: BYD has improved its ranking in the Fortune Global 500 list.

For its third consecutive year on the list compiled by Fortune magazine, the Chinese carmaker has leaped from number 212 (in 2023) to number 143 at the time of writing. For BYD, the improvement “solidifies its status as the fastest-growing brand among all automotive companies named in the category.”

Contributing to its rise in the industry is BYD’s accelerated global expansion. As of July 2024, BYD’s overseas sales surpassed 233,000 units, nearly equaling the company’s overall overseas sales for 2023.

Last month, BYD’s eight millionth new-energy vehicle rolled out of its factory in Thailand.

BYD is now present in 88 countries and regions, across over 400 cities, with production facilities in Brazil, Hungary, Uzbekistan, and as mentioned, Thailand.

The said achievements — BYD noted — are driven by the company’s unwavering commitment to technological innovation. It has applied for over 48,000 patents, of which more than 30,000 have been granted.

BYD continues to make its mark here in the Philippines.

Together with the help of ACMobility, BYD has launched several models in the country.

Its lineup consists of electric vehicles (EV) like the Dolphin as well as the Atto 3, which Zigwheels Philippines was able to drive from Bonifacio Global City to Baguio City; the Han and Tang, whose mettle we tested; and the recently-released Sealion 6 DM-i.

BYD’s offerings are backed by Ayala’s strong network of EV charging stations, which includes the recently opened hub in Ayala Malls Manila Bay.
