BYD e6 to be the first EV from the Chinese brand in the local market
MANILA: BYD Philippines is all to sell a fully electric vehicle in the nearby future. Tagged as e6, it will be an electric crossover. With a range of over 300 km and a peak torque of 450 Nm, BYD is aiming to get an early hold over this emerging segment as this will be the first full EV car to market in the Philippines.

Being a leader in electric and hybrid vehicle technology in China, BYD had plans of offering an EV in the Philippines. BYD Philippines, under Solar Transport and Automotive Resources Corporation (STARC) is planning to introduce a full EV car in the local market. With the presence of the new tax reform law, there will be zero excise taxes on full electric vehicles. This law will help in bringing down the e6’s price to a far more nominal range.

The BYD e6 adorns a sleek design. A stylish front grille resembling a circuit board is accompanied by a set of long, stretched headlights with LED daytime running lights. To enhance the looks of the car even more, a set of classy 17-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels have been installed. The BYD e6 measures 450 mm long, 1822 mm wide, and 1645 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2830 mm. The ground clearance of the car is rated at 150 mm while the curb weight of the car is 2380 kg.
A powerful electric brushless motor is installed in the e6 which comes with a 61.4 kWh iron-phosphate battery pack. The car produces a 120 PS and a massive 450 Nm of torque. The e6 has a top speed of 140 kmph and a maximum cruising range of 300 km.
BYD is yet to officially announce the price of the e6, although it can be expected to be priced reasonably due to the implementation of zero excise tax reform. Sleekly designed, the e6 sports a powerful brushless motor and a decent top speed. When launched, it will be interesting to see how the first fully electric car will perform in a highly sensitive market.
