CALAX Silang Aguinaldo Interchange now 65% complete

MANILA: The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) and MPCALA Holdings Inc. conducted a regular inspection on the operational segment of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) on January 12.

The inspectorate team was led by TRB Officer-in-Charge Josephine Turbolencia, TRB Regulation Division OIC Chief Julita Bingco, TRB Regulation Division Deputy Chief Joz Carlos Ordillano, and TRB Spokesperson Julius Corpuz. The expressway's technological, safety, and security features and the toll plaza operations, including the Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) cameras and RFID system, were inspected.

Aside from operational concerns, TRB also inspected the construction of the soon-to-open Silang (Aguinaldo) segment of CALAX. Once completed, the interchange will be only 20 minutes away from Tagaytay via Aguinaldo Highway.

The Silang (Aguinaldo) segment remained unfinished because of right-of-way issues that were crucial to the project's completion. According to MPCALA, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is now working on the issue.

“While we work closely with our grantor, DPWH to fast-track delivery of right-of-way, especially in the critical area in Silang, we continue to do construction work on areas where right of way has already been granted so as not to further delay the project,” MPCALA President Raul Ignacio stated.

While Subsection 4 or the Silang (Aguinaldo) segment is only 65% complete, the overall CALAX project has now reached more than 57%. Once completed, CALAX will connect to the Aguinaldo Highway, the busiest road in Cavite, and help relieve traffic on major thoroughfares in Cavite and Laguna.

CALAX will soon expand to 45 kilometers and connect to Cavitex. Its current operational segments span as far as Silang East Interchange from Mamplasan in Binan, with interchanges at Laguna Technopark, Laguna Boulevard, and Santa Rosa-Tagaytay Road.

MPCALA Holdings Inc. is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the toll road development arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC).

Aside from CALAX and Cavitex, MPTC also owns the concessions for North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), NLEX Connector Road, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), and Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).
