Chrysler Recall Scheduled - Brake Caliper May Break-Off

MANILA: FCA recently issued a press release which is not pertaining to a launch but for a recall. This time, the matter seems to be a bit serious and includes as many as two Chrysler high-end cars - Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. Like their distinct virtues, their recall issue is also one in a million, a rare scenario witnessed only a few times in the auto history.

Thus, making one thing clear that this recall is not related to the monotonous airbag issue. The entire problem here revolves around a poorly manufactured brake caliper that may lead to reduced brake performance.

What went wrong in the factory?

Well, it seems that one specific manufacturer poured in a wrong material in the casting mold that was designed to create front brake caliper. The malfunctioning was first detected by the manufacturer himself, which he later on informed to the officials, triggering an internal investigation. The search revealed that brake caliper made out of wrong metal are suspected to crack in future, leading to fatal accidents. Though, till date no accident pertaining to the said issue is recorded.

How can one suspect if his/her inherits the fault?

As Chrysler has not yet notified the concerned customers, it is obvious that after hearing the news all will try to search potential clues hinting towards the said malfunctions. So, anytime in future if you suspect leaking brake fluid, illumination of low brake fluid, warning light or reduced brake performance, chances are that your vehicle number will feature in the recall list.

Chrysler remedy move -

As per the concerned FCA Recall PR, 14,768 Jeep Cherokee and Dodge Durango manufactured between December 9th, 2015 to January 14th, 2016 are affected with the wrong metal defect. The clean-up is yet to be scheduled, but whenever it is announced, owners will be notified. Each vehicle will then be inspected depending on brake caliper casting date, leading to required free replacement,

No notification has been received from the official distributor. But any day in future, if you experience any type of braking related discomfort, we would advise an immediate rush to the nearest service center. And we hope like the recent Maserati Recall this one too remains far from the Philippines land.
