Maserati Recall: Floor Mats the Only Known Culprit

MANILA: Maserati is recalling two of its high-performance sedans Quattroporte and Ghibli in the American market. The news came as a shock as the brand like Maserati is not expected to face a recall problem over a petty issue like floor mats. Well, these mats are not at all innocent and are the reason behind many reported accidents all over the U.S.

How Floor Mats are the Culprit?

Maserati driver-side floor mats are a bit naughty, shifting and changing their position at the time when the car is in motion. This shifting leads clogging of the area between accelerator paddle and car carpet.

How this leads to accidents?

Everyone of us is aware of the 'unintended acceleration', the same problem with which Mitsubishi Montero Sport was once detected and of which it later came out all clear. Well, this time, the mischievous floor mats have infected Quattroporte and Ghibli with the same. And unlike Mitsubishi, Maserati has accepted the flaw and will soon initiate a Maserati U.S recall.

When is Maserati North America expected to initiate the recall and what details it has shared over the issue?

Well, for now, Maserati has just informed its customer base about the problem. The company is expected to initiate Quattroporte Ghibli recall from 29th April 2016, wherein it well replace floor mat and accelerator panel, all free of cost. In all 28,235 cars built between 1st February 2013 to 30th November 2015 are scheduled for the April recall, owners of which will be informed soon through personal contact.

Dose Maserati has a past recall history?

Yes, Maserati has a past recall history attached to its name. In October 2014, the company recalled 984 Quattroporte GTS as it suffered from probable fire risk. Since then the company has experienced downfall in its U.S. sales charts that is expected to get no better after this incident.
