Maserati names new super sports car; signals return to racing

MANILA: After less than a decade away from motorsports, Maserati signals its return by announcing the name of their new super sports car, the MC20.

MC stands for Maserati Corse and 20 is for the year 2020, which marks the brand’s return to racing.

It is inspired by the highly successful MC12, the car that also marked Maserati’s return to racing in 2004 after 37 years. The MC12 won 22 races (including three victories in the 24 Hours of Spa) and 14 Championship titles across Constructors’ Championship, Drivers’ Championship and Teams’ Championships in the FIA GT from 2004 to 2010.

Developed at the Maserati Innovation Lab, it will be built at the Viale Ciro Menotti plant in Modena, which is already undergoing work to equipped it with advanced innovative low environmental-impact technologies, and a paint shop, a completely new feature for the facility.

No details have been released yet but Maserati says it will have an advanced electric powertrain.

The Maserati MC20 will make its debut at the end of May in Modena.
